We are committed to fostering growth, engagement, and recognizing contributions, providing you with the tools to advance in your career.\n\nApplicants will be placed in the appropriate role (Histotechnician or Histotechnologist) and salary level based on experience and education.\nThe Histotechnologist role starts at $24.32 per hour.\n\n If you're ready to be part of a team that thrives on excellence and collaboration, apply today to join UPMC and help shape the future of medicine!\n UPMC is currently offering a generous sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 for Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists!\n Responsibilities:\n\nUnderstands CoPath related to Histology workflow. \nProgresses towards working independently in an advanced staining area. \nPerforms QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining \nProcesses and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping. \nEmbeds and cuts specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. \nEnsures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters. \nAccurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. \nMaintains instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. \nPerforms additional tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.\n\n Histotechnician:\n\nHigh school diploma. \nCompletion of the educational requirements needed to take the Histotechnician (HT) exam:\n\nSuccessful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR;\nAssociate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. \n\n\n1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training is preferred.\n\n Histotechnologist:\n\nCompletion of the educational requirements needed in order to take the Histotechnologist (HTL) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP):\n\nB.S. Degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last 5 years OR;\nB.S. Degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry AND one-year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S., Canada or a CAP/The Joint Commission (JCAHO)/AABB accredited laboratory within the last 10 years. \n\n\nExperience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology) or an appropriately board-certified medical scientist. \n1 year of full-time experience in a histology laboratory preferred.\n\n Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:\n\nAm Society Clinical PathologyHistology Technician (HT) certification from ASCP is required within 1 year of hire.\nAmerican Society for Clinical Pathology\n\n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
