Duties of Companion Caregivers may include:
- Light housekeeping
- Menu planning, meal preparation and set up
- Laundry and linen change
- Transportation/shopping
- Bathing and dressing assistance set up only
- Safety and companionship
Major Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting the agency's clients with their personal care needs in accordance with the care plan.
- Responsible for assisting clients with activities of daily living in a safe and beneficial manner.
- Caregivers must be observant enough to recognize changes in their clients, and be capable of alerting the appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Does not administer medication or perform any procedures requiring the knowledge or skills of a licensed nurse or registered therapist.

RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Experience as a caregiver in a home care setting or skilled facility.
- Must be able to function with minimal supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the client.
- Must accept responsibility for maintaining skills and learning on an ongoing basis, as well as adhering to agency policies.
- Must pass all background screening with satisfactory results.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must possess effective communication skills
California Specific Requirements
- Be registered on the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) online registry system located at
- Be fingerprinted and submit to CDSS through Live scan
- Successfully clear a background check (submit Criminal Record Statement)
- Possess a valid form of Identification (i.e. California Driver's License)
- Possess a Tuberculosis Clearance (no more than 90 days old) or if positive for TB, possess a chest x-ray indicating that they are free of TB
- Complete the ongoing training requirement of 5 hours per year
- Vaccinated and Boosted against COVID-19
Physical Qualifications
- Able to work an average of 20-40 hours per week.
- Able to bend, climb, stoop, and stand an average of 5 hours per day.
- Able to lift 20-30 pounds.
- Able to use tools necessary for job.
Salary Description $18.50 - $22.50 per hour
