Overview:
Hudson Valley Credit Union is currently recruiting for the position of Home Equity Underwriter. Primary Function: Make independent loan decisions by approving, denying and counter-offering home equity loans and lines of credit within loan approval authority limits. Ensure compliance with established Credit Union policies, department procedures, lending regulations, state and federal laws.
Responsibilities:
- Approve, deny and counter-offer home equity loans and lines of credit in accordance with prudent industry best practices. Make independent decisions in the best interest of the Credit Unions desire to serve our members and risk tolerance. Communicate the decision to members, directly and indirectly. Document loan exceptions thoroughly.
- Ensure that documents required by Truth in Lending and RESPA are issued in accordance with current regulations.
- Responsible for data integrity in all consumer loan systems.
- Responsible for entering thorough comments in loan systems to support the follow-up and document authentication practices.
- Request appropriate services required for new Home Equity applications.
- Handle member interactions and internal customers over the phone, in writing or in person in a timely, professional manner.
- Maintain satisfactory level of technical knowledge and professional skill to keep up with current developments and changes in regulations.
- Adhere to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. Participate in all required and recommended training and development including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act training (BSA) and demonstrate attained knowledge. Participate on Credit Union teams, projects and strategic initiatives when the opportunity arises. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Embrace and apply HVCUs guiding principles to all activities and responsibilities. Support the Credit Unions initiatives by demonstrating teamwork and professionalism.
- Responsible for regular and predictable attendance including punctuality.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) certificate, or state authorized high school equivalent certificate required
- Registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) required
- Minimum 1 Year Underwriting in consumer and/or residential mortgage experience preferred
