JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Hospice Aide provides personal care, homemaker chores, emotional support, and assistance with activities of daily living to terminally ill patients in the home, the majority of who are over the age of eighteen.

This position is responsible for assisting the patient in maintaining good personal hygiene and a safe and clean environment.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A certified Nurse Assistant course at an approved school or equivalency experience listed below.

Licensure: Must have a current drivers license, valid automobile insurance coverage. Must have a valid drivers license and automobile insurance coverage in accordance with Hamilton Health Care System Driver Requirements policy.

Experience: Preferably one-year experience in an institutional setting or provided care to patients in a home setting.

Skills: CPR techniques and License. Demonstration of ability to complete personal, environmental and basic unskilled nursing care to include the following; vital signs, S & As; administration of fleet and soap suds enemas, and infection control techniques. In the absence of a Nurses Aide Certificate, must have the ability to successfully complete a competency evaluation and skills checklist. Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and regulations to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to administer patient care. Skill in documenting and reporting patients care and changes in the patients care. Interpersonal skills to maintain an effective working relationship with associates, patients, and the general public. Ability to react calmly during emergencies. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to work independently in patients homes without direct supervision. Ability to drive self to various locations on a daily basis.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Varies with patients home environment. Moderate road and environmental hazards. Requires moderate mental effort in completing paperwork. Requires moderate amount of sitting while driving. Moderate amount of stooping, bending and lifting. Full range of motion with ability to lift and transfer patients. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
