PURPOSE: Second Home is a community effort to provide safe and stable housing for unaccompanied students, so they can focus on their studies, explore their gifts and talents, graduate from high school, and realize their goals and dreams. The program is a partnership between our statewide nonprofit Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO), local school districts, local mediation centers, business and faith communities, and local community members. The Home Provider Coordinator will oversee and coordinate the recruitment and onboarding of home providers across the East Multnomah & Clackamas County regions of the Second Home program; and network with members of local congregations, civic organizations, and businesses to spread awareness regarding youth homelessness and the Second Home program.

ACCOUNTABILITY: To the mission and goals of EMO as determined by the Board of Directors, and as administered by the Executive Director and their delegates.

REPORTS TO: Program Director

DIRECT REPORTS: None

LOCATION: Remote within the Portland Metro Area

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, full-time (32 hours/week)*

*32 hours is considered full-time at EMO, and pay is consistent with a 40-hour work-week.

BENEFITS: Salary range starts at $32.43 hourly, with increases available for educational qualifications. All regular employees (does not include on-call or temporary) are eligible for vacation, holidays, sick leave, 401(k) retirement plan, employee assistance program, and employee trainings. Employees in exempt positions or non-exempt positions that are 18 hours per week or more, also receive medical insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, and life insurance, per eligibility requirements.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the recruitment, training, onboarding, and supporting of home providers across East Multnomah and North Clackamas County regions of the Second Home program, with special emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with Second Home Program Team Members.
  • Collaborate with Second Home team and community partners to develop a strategic plan for home provider recruitment in each region where Second Home serves students.
  • Recruit home providers according to the above strategic plan, including working together with Regional Coordinators and students to locate kinship home providers.
  • Work together with the Second Home program and EMO team to raise awareness around youth homelessness and provide community outreach and recruitment through speaking engagements/presentations, online and print publicity, social media, radio, etc.
  • Interview potential home providers, onboard new home providers, and act as support to recruited home providers.
  • Assist in providing individual and group trainings for home providers in priority areas such as trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, supporting students experiencing suicide ideation, etc.
  • Assist in the exit process of home providers when they have completed the duration of their time as a home provider for a student.
  • Maintain financial and client-based records, including weekly case notes in the program database.
  • Facilitate and ensure that background checks are completed for home providers.
  • Be available to support home providers and team members, as needed.
  • Promote and contribute to the development and growth of the overall program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Ability to work within the mission, vision, and ethics of EMO, and maintain an understanding of the services provided by the programs and projects of EMO.

    KNOWLEDGE: Degree in Marketing and/or Social Work, two years of experience in the field and/or lived experience; Training in trauma-informed care; Outreach and community engagement experience.

    SKILLS: Able to work independently while maintaining a close relationship with team, supervisor, and co-workers; Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to and affirm people from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances; treat all individuals with respect and dignity; Fluent in English and Spanish.

    EFFORT: High level of organization and prioritization skills; Candidate must have access to reliable transportation to scattered work sites and possess valid driver's license and evidence of insurability.

    RESPONSIBILITY: Experience and comfort working with clients at off-site locations, for example: home visits, site visits, etc.; Self-starter. Experience giving presentations to groups of people and tabling at events.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to work in a respectful manner with people of diverse ethnicity, socio-economic circumstances, religion, culture, and sexual orientation; High tolerance for ambiguity and change; Available some weekends/evenings; Available to work in regions where Second Home serves youth.
