Job Title: Homebound InstructorReports to: Assistant SuperintendentType of position: Non-exemptSalary: Hourly rate of pay: $50.00Primary Purpose:Provide general/special education consultation and direct instruction to meet the needs of students eligible for homeboundManage homebound referrals and facilitate communication with the school administrationManage students during the period of homeboundEnforce education in the Least Restrictive EnvironmentQualifications:Education/Certification: Bachelor's degreeValid Virginia teaching certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of core areas of instructionKnowledge of special needs of studentsKnowledge of the IEP goal-setting process and implementationAbility to instruct studentsExcellent management and communication skillsAbility to work with students in crisis situations (acute or catastrophic illness or injury)Ability to maintain confidentialityInstructional Strategies:
- Pick up and deliver student assignments
- Implement instructional activities provided by the student's teacher of record, including any
modifications/accommodations designed in the homebound instructional plan
- Provide effective instruction that is clear, compelling, and engaging, while considering learning
style of the student
- Manage materials and equipment effectively
- Use appropriate student behavior management techniques
Student growth and development:
- Monitor student performance to improve student success
- Be a positive role model for students
- Provide positive and successful opportunities for students to develop positive self-esteem
- Coordinate the school work of the regular class and the homebound service so that the
Students will be able to return to school with the least possible adjustments
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
Program management and organization:
- Complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner
- Manage materials and equipment effectively
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials
- Use appropriate technology in instructional delivery
- Use appropriate student behavior management techniques in accordance with the student code of conduct and student handbook
Communication:
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Contact student's teacher regularly to secure assignments and any special information needed to provide adequate instruction
- Communicate effectively, accurately, and clearly, both orally and in writing, with other professionals
- Collaborate with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student's needs
- Serve as liaison between the school and home for delivery of instructional services
- Work with families and staff to ensure a smooth transition of student back to the regular school setting
