Job Description:

Horticulturist with Arborist experience will be responsible for all aspects of tree maintenance, removal, and relocation on the grounds of property owned and operated by Universal Studios Hollywood and throughout the park, as well as other duties assigned within the Landscaping department. Specific duties include but are not limited to plant identification, proper planting and pruning techniques, pest and disease identification, identifying drought stress and specific water needs, chemical application, and maintaining plant health and appearance standards to a high level. Shall obtain and hold a MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) card for lane closures, and traffic maintenance. Ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate their technical abilities in performing work to industry standards with little to no supervision.

Job Responsibilities

* Operate all heavy equipment, being adept in using a bucket truck and high reach to prune, move, install, and remove trees and palms. In addition, being proficient in the operation and maintenance of chipper and all 2-cycle equipment, i.e., Chain saws, power pole saws, and back-pack or handheld blowers. Complete Maximo Work Orders.

* Climb trees for proper maintenance and removal within UDX climbing and rigging guidelines based on ANSI A300 standards. Including the ability to perform specific climbing knots, i.e., Bowline hitch, half hitch, double half hitch, and slip knot.

* Rigging trees for proper lifting and transport. Being capable of applying the essential techniques used for tree lifting i.e.: Choke strapping, barrel strapping, saddle strapping, and pinning.

* Responsible for risk assessments of UDX trees and proper documentation in the PM system.

* Assists with training new and current team members on industry and UDX standards, policies, and procedures.

* Assist in specimen tree relocation, including ball and burlap operation, jetting in, staking and guying.

* Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety. responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

* Operate basic landscape hand tools including, but not limited to; rakes, shovels, brooms, pruning tools, and digging tools.

* Move, install, and work with landscape building materials such as rocks, pavers, retaining wall materials, bender board.

* Identification of proper tree nutrition and/or deficiencies.

* Apply fertilizers, mulches, compost, sand, and other material for soil/plant amending.

* Identify common landscape plants utilized on property

* Perform basic maintenance and repairs of landscape tools/equipment

* Perform general work of landscape areas and landscape storage locations.

* Maintain and install artificial plant material

* Monitor and maintain a safe and secure environment for both team members and guests of all ages, following all company guidelines and protocols.

* Identify, de-escalate, and resolve conflicts or disturbances professionally and effectively to maintain a positive atmosphere.

* Provide a positive and welcoming experience for guests of all ages while maintaining composure during difficult interactions.

* Maintain a high level of trust and integrity to promote a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues of all ages.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

* Must be 18 years of age or older Operate forklift to deliver materials Class B CDL required. ISA Certified Arborist required ISA Tree Risk Assessment Certification required Thorough knowledge of plants and how to maintain and manage them Knowledge of the principles of nursery management Knowledge of landscaping principles Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used within the field. Ability and willingness to work a variety of schedules, overtime, weekends, and holidays with short notice Ability and willingness to respond to incidents in locations requiring climbing, fall protection, and other non-traditional work-environments. Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written on a technical level Must have the ability to motivate employees and work independently and as part of a team

The pay range for this role is $31.83-47.99 per hour plus $2 overscale.
