Job Description:
This position supports the Department by providing timely and accurate specimen receipt, accessioning, preparation, and/or processing for analysis on various tissue and body fluids. Functions also include delivering specimen collection information and results to doctors, ensuring accurate chain of custody documentation, and equipment and general area maintenance.Apply By Date: November 15, 2024 at 11:59pm.   • High School Diploma
  • Laboratory Experience.
  • Must possess working knowledge of laboratory protocols and skill in the application of such.
  • Must possess working knowledge ofmedical terminology, basic human anatomy and technical knowledge to complete assigned tasks.
  • Manual dexterity for pipetting specimens and operating automated equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and biology for understanding methods used in the laboratory.
  • Reading skills to understand procedures, protocols, and policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science Background
  • Prior experience in an Anatomic Pathology Laboratory setting (e.g. Histology, Grossing, Cytology)
  • Possession of technical vocabulary to meet departmental business needs.
  • Possess mathematic skills for performing routine laboratory calculations.
  • Adhere to UCDHS and Department of Pathology guidelines concerning rules of conduct, safety, and all applicable policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Possess tact and diplomacy to effectively deal with ward, clinic, laboratory personnel and individuals outside of the hospital environment in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to prioritize work and several projects/tasks simultaneously and complete work/projects/tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability during changing demands, to assess work volume accurately and quickly as needed to meet business commitments.
  • Ability to maintain composure and flexibility in an evolving environment.
  • Ability to maintain records legibly and accurately.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Possess skill to communicate and function effectively in a diverse and multi cultural work environment.

Department Overview The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse multi-site department whose mission is to create a healthier world through bold innovation in public health, education, technology and research. UC Davis is leading the way in diagnosing, treating, and ultimately preventing disease. Pathology brings these efforts together with education and patient care to transform the field. This position sets the highest standards for professionalism and competency in providing high quality customer service, diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients within UCDHS and its affiliates. Our laboratories are licensed by the State of California, certified by CLIA, accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP), AABB, and Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and located in three distinct facilities: Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP); Pathology Building; and the Specialty Testing Center (STC). The department is one of UCDMC's largest ancillary services with annual gross revenues of over $415M, expenses of approximately $65M, and more than 350 overall employees in the department's clinical and academic sections. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's mission is to provide high quality patient/physician services, to maintain the excellence of the educational programs, and to perform scholarly research and development when appropriate.
