Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: The Registration Clerk registers patients for outpatient and/or inpatient services for the hospital. Answers and accurately directs phone calls, as well as greets and assists visitors. Collects and updates patient information for billing, accepts patient payments and acts as liaison with patient family members or responsible parties, and any other duties which may be required or assigned.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Personal Job Related Skills: Familiar with operating personal computers. Typing speed of 45 wpm and operation of ten key adding machine/calculator.
  • Licensure, Registry or Certification: None required.
PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • One year of experience working with the public preferred. Experience in a medical setting preferred.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties of this position require:
  • Clear and understandable speech and the ability to hear.
  • Intermittent walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
TASKS
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Muenster Hospital District.
  • Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Follows safety guidelines and all policies and procedures of MHD.
  • Maintain office supplies
  • Overhead announcements
  • Obtain patient information and update in computer
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Accept Payments on Accounts
  • Calculate and collect upfront copay, coinsurance, and/or deductibles as needed
  • Make appropriate copies as needed for the business office
  • Check medical necessity thru MedAssets (Medicare and Medicare Advantage)
  • Coordinate with providers when additional information is needed on an order (i.e. medical necessity, missing diagnosis)
  • Scan as needed for Department
  • Inform patients of patient portal and give card with medical record # on it if interested
  • Review filed orders and call patients as reminder of order before expiration date
  • Review standing orders and notify providers and patient when new order is required
  • Precertification requirements for Inpatient and/or Swing bed patients
  • Coordinate with other departments on orders and scheduling needs (ie..surgery, pre-op, nuc testing)
  • Go to bank for deposits (includes pharmacy from A/P)
  • Go to post office and check mailboxes for Clinic and Hospital
  • Open and sort mail
  • Approve Time Clock Plus hours daily and submit time off requests for management to approve. Responsible for reporting discrepancies to manager for correction.
