GENERAL INTRODUCTION:The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him. (Apostolorum Successores 177).Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:To support the housekeeping operation of the Retreat and Faith Formation Center of the Archdiocese through cleaning and other related duties as assigned. Act as a resource for housekeeping staff, lead by example and assist the Operations Manager in the day to day operations of the housekeeping function at the Retreat Center.ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
Collaborates with supervisor and other staff in carrying out the mission of the Retreat Center. This includes taking the initiative to ensure the Retreat Center facilities are clean and hospitably caring for guest needs. Employee takes initiative to understand the mission of the Retreat Center including understanding and expressing the teachings of the Church regarding the care of the Retreat Center as a sacred space. Serves as resource to the staff in the area of housekeeping maintaining the knowledge and skills needed to effectively perform duties.Ensures all Retreat Center public spaces and offices are clean and ready for use. This includes disposal of litter, cleaning of surface areas, vacuuming of halls and stairs, cleaning lounge areas. Utilize housekeeping staff as appropriate to assist in the above.Assists with cleaning and maintenance of Kitchen and Dining Room. Assists with meal preparation and serving as needed.Ensures that the Chapel is clean, supplied and properly maintained according to the liturgical norms of the Catholic Church.Ensures efficient and proper cleaning of the Retreat Center and guest rooms after groups depart. Work with Manager at morning check-in to create daily work/room assignments for housekeepers.Responsible for set-up of conference rooms and other spaces in preparation for use by Retreat Center guests. This includes determining what each group will need regarding all needed equipment and room set-ups and making the necessary adjustments to get everything prepared and ready in a timely manner. Utilize housekeeping staff as appropriate to assist in the setup for new groups that are coming on-site.Responsible for ensuring that the housekeeping supply area is fully equipped to meet the needs of the Retreat Center by ordering supplies and ensuring proper maintenance of equipment. This also includes ensuring that the coffee bar supplies and linens are stocked in the Forest View room.Uses time when guests are not in the Retreat Center to conduct thorough cleaning of public spaces and guest rooms (e.g. washing walls, cleaning windows, cleaning carpets, etc.). During these times, employee may do light yard work.In collaboration with the Facilities Manager, ensures the proper maintenance of potted plants and flowers within and adjacent to the Retreat Center buildings.Performs other duties as assignedQualificationsPrimary:
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
Education:
Experience:
- At least six months housekeeping experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Other Elements:
- Ability to work evenings until 8pm
- Familiarity with and reverence for Catholic liturgical norms.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, other employees and guests.
