In 2016, One World Observatory received awards and recognition from the Concierge Choice Awards (Winner: Tourist Attraction), Themed Entertainment Association (Thea Awards for Outstanding Achievement), TripAdvisor (Top U.S. Trending Summer Attraction), and Lonely Planet (Favorite Online Listing).THE ROLEThe Restaurant Host is responsible for welcoming and warmly greeting guests on arrival, answering telephone calls at the Host Stand, taking reservations, and managing the efficient and timely seating of our guests to a table that best serves their wishes. The role reports to the Food & Beverage Manager.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPractice safe work habits and follow all safety policies and procedures and regulationsWarmly and graciously greet all guests upon arrivalProvide guidance to guests at One World Observatory inclusive of dining options and general New York City informationUtilize electronic table management system to monitor dining room and guest flow, maximize table usage, and minimize customer wait timesExplain the restaurant concept to guestsRecord guest names and number of people in party when immediate seating is unavailableBe knowledgeable about the floor plan, server station assignments, and table numbersProvide guests with estimated wait timesAlways maintain a professional, courteous attitude when confronted with hostile or impatient guestsAccommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possibleSeat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stationsOffer guests menus and inform them of their server's nameInspect tables for proper presentation and completenessRelay messages to servers and bus-persons as neededRelay guest comments or suggestions to the manager on dutyMaintain supplies at the host standClean menus of food and/or stainsKeep work area, including storage areas, clean and organizedPerform general cleaning and sanitizing tasks to adhere to health and safety standardsAttend mandatory meetingsThank guests as they leave and invite them to returnComplete other duties as assigned by leadershipQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:At least one year experience in the food and beverage industryFluency in multiple languagesMust be personable, friendly and welcomingAbility to work extended hours and flexible shifts including mornings, nights, weekends and holidaysAbility to stand for extended periods and to walk to and from the host stand multiple times while on shiftKnowledgeable of electronic reservation systems (preferably OpenTable)Great communication and customer service skillsAbility to maintain personal hygiene and a well-groomed appearance per appearance policyAbility to work independently or in a team during set up and execution of serviceWillingness and drive to exceed guest expectationsAbility to effectively listen and take direction/instructionAbility to effectively communicate with team and guestsExcellent knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service standardsAbility to handle challenges (including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving as necessary)Ability to lift up to 10lbs on an occasional basisCOMPENSATION$20.00/hour + generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401(k) plan.WORKING CONDITIONSOn-Site.
