MIM Music Theater was designed and built with the same passion for music that fills the museum. It is one of the best theaters of its size in the world, not only because of its exceptional acoustics, comfort, and technical capabilities, but also because it is part of MIM - the most extensive collection of musical instruments from around the world in any one location. MIM's Music Theater presents over 280 concerts annually that span the cultures and genres of the world. Position Summary: This position will manage the music theater's front-of-house responsibilities during concert performances and other events, interacting with multiple groups of people including guest service, volunteer team members, guests, and the artist themselves. Will also serve as production coordinator as needed. Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage MIM Music Theater front-of-house operations during concert performances
- When not required in the house manager role, serve as stage manager or lighting designer, averaging four instances weekly
- Hold pre-show meetings with ushers/event volunteer team members to advise them of all information pertaining to the run of the event, volunteer assignments, procedures, and special instructions
- Prepare a detailed show report for each concert, highlighting feedback from the audience and staff
- Compile the expenses and create a settlement sheet to send to the Artistic Director
- Coordinate pre-show, intermission, and post-show logistics with Theater department
- Facilitate post-show debriefing, addressing any issues, questions, or concerns and ensuring that the theater is cleared and secured
- Facilitate emergency procedures with the Security team as required
- Address guest complaints and concerns during concerts; escalate any issues to appropriate department
- Oversee artist merchandise sales by coordinating volunteer team members and using the POS system
- Conduct inventory of all merchandise, reconcile payments with artist/tour manager, balance drawers, and deposit cash
- Respond to artist/tour manager inquiries regarding the status of merchandise checks
- Coordinate with the Finance department to ensure all artist merchandise payments are fulfilled
- Collaborate with multiple museum departments to ensure the smooth production for every event
- Install sponsor signage, and establish relationships with donors at concert events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience working with the public in a guest-facing role
- 1-3 years' experience in house management or similar front-of-house role in a theater or performing arts venue preferred
- Experience managing volunteer team members/supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Office. Experience with event management software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to cheerfully exercise patience and sound judgment in a variety of situations, especially in direct interactions with the public
Note: The hours will vary each week/month based on theater performances and museum events and will require mostly nights and weekends - schedule will vary based upon museum events calendars.
