**MercyOne** **Centerville Medical Center, one of Iowa's oldest continually** **operating** **hospitals is also one of Iowa's finest and busiest rural hospitals.**

**In fiscal year 2012, the hospital saw over 150,000 total inpatient and outpatient visits.** **MercyOne** **Centerville is a subsidiary corporation of** **MercyOne** **Des Moines Medical Center and a member of Catholic Health Initiatives, Denver, CO.**

**In September 2010,** **MercyOne** **Centerville Medical Center, formerly St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville, Iowa celebrated its centennial year - 100 years of compassionate care to Centerville, Appanoose County, and the surrounding area in southern Iowa and northern Missouri.**

**A full history of the hospital, with many other interesting facts and personalities was published for the occasion along with an evening of memories, Mass of celebration, rededication ceremony and reception, attended by over 500 people. A special historical exhibit on the hospital's history was also opened for viewing at the Appanoose County Historical Museum.**

**Job Summary** **Purpose A nursing leadership position that is familiar with all levels of care in Med/Surg, Emergency Room, Surgical Services, Infusion Center, and Long Term Care. Coordinates patient care, supervision, and acts as a resource person when warranted. Provides a positive image to all staff and manages a team that delivers outstanding patient care to patients of diverse ages as defined: birth to death.**

**Essential Key Job Responsibilitie** **s**

**Provides leadership as a role model in developing and implementing the team concept of patient care delivery. -**

**Coordinates patient care on all units (i.e. Med/Surg, ED, SCU, LTC and Infusion Center). Makes rounds to all departments, as able. -**

**Adjusts staffing after hours, on weekends, and in the absence of the nurse managers and staffing coordinator, consistent with patient care load and acuity. -**

**Knowledge of nursing personnel and their strengths, in making staff assignments.**

**Ongoing evaluation of staff performance and provides positive reinforcement as well as guidance and support for improvement of care delivery.**

**Ensures a safe working environment and emphasizes that safety is our first priority.**

**Maintains open and direct communication with administration, nursing administration, other supervisors, medical staff, department managers, and other staff. -**

**Works independently in accordance with the Iowa Nurse Practice Act, MercyOne Medical Center policies, patient care standards, and professional judgment. -**

**Maintain clinical competencies to serve as a mentor to staff and as a clinical resource to patient care personnel. -**

**Other duties as assigned by management.**
