Housekeeper/Custodian II

Description **POSITION DESCRIPTION:**

The Housekeeper is a full-time non-exempt employee of The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands and reports to the Facilities Manager and works in partnership with other Trust employees. The Housekeeper under the direction of the Lead Housekeeping is responsible for maintaining established cleaning standards on a daily basis. This position performs a variety of work in all areas of the Historic Home, Visitor Center, Cottages, Retreat Pavilion and the Operations Building. This position must provide clean, sanitary comfortable, orderly and satisfying surroundings for employees, retreat participants, and the public.

The Housekeeper is expected to share in the strategic long-term vision of the Trust and contribute to the growth of the Trust from both a tactical perspective in the day-to-day operations and more importantly, from a strategic, long-term planning perspective, helping to bring innovation and efficiency to this aspect of the Trust.

Requirements

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

* Performs housekeeping duties, majority of time is spent in performing cleaning duties

* Ensures department compliance with healthcare organization and regulatory codes.

* Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, kitchens and other work areas so that health standards are met.

* Follows safety procedures and immediately reports any unsafe condition or equipment to Lead Housekeeper.

* Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.

* Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.

* Sweep, scrub, wax, and/or polish floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.

* Laundry service towels, rags, etc.

* Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in rest rooms and kitchens.

* Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats and fixtures

* Clean caf, gift shop, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other work areas so that health standards are met. Assist in the continuing daily operation of the caf by clearing, wiping down, and disinfecting tables.

* Wet/dry mop floors in all areas as needed during Center open hours

* Must handle various cleaning solvents, chemicals, etc. Must comply with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, State Health Department, etc.

* Cleans and polishes hardware such as doors, woodwork, door handles, push plates and other equipment.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.

* Spot clean interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment.

* Provide house cleaner service during Retreats.

* Report any needed repairs immediately to facilities (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, broken window panes, missing nuts or screws, beds needing repair, etc.).

* Check entire area for spills, water, etc.

* Use safety precautions in all housekeeping services

* Wash dishes and clean kitchens, cooking utensils, and silverware.

* Regular, reliable and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job

* Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS****:**

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essentials of this job. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Housekeeper must be dexterous, able to lift or move heavy furniture, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance. Housekeeper must be able to stand for long periods of time. Housekeeper must be able to spend the majority of the day walking, twisting, bending, pushing and pulling. While performing the duties of this job, the Housekeeper may be required to read, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel and crouch. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise environment in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk through facilities for periods of up to (8) hours per day with scheduled breaks. The employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds. While performing duties in this position, the employee will work outdoors and may be exposed to wet and/or hot conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, sharp objects, extreme heat and/or open flame. The noise environment in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The employee may operate a golf cart, shuttle or motor vehicle.

**SKILLS NEEDED:**

* Special expertise in the care and maintenance of fine furniture, fabrics, decorative & art objects.

* Excellent teamwork & task organizational skills.

* Strong sense of ethics and sound judgment.

* Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.

* Ability to move objects.

* Excellent time management, organization and prioritization skills.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

The Housekeeper will have the following experience:

* General knowledge of established cleaning procedures and techniques, and special applications required in assigned areas.

* General knowledge of the purpose and application of products, and equipment used in cleaning operations.

* Ability to follow a daily work schedule and to react to situations requiring minor adjustments to routine.

* Ability to physically perform the duties of a housekeeping assistant.

* Ability to receive, understand, and convey applicable written or oral instructions, and to complete simple reports.

* Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others.

Minimum Education and Experience

* Education and/or experience in housekeeping work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to three years of experience.

* High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

* Possession of a valid and clean California driver's license.

* Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in cleaning and maintenance of facilities.
