The Housing Specialist performs a variety of office and field activities to identify and secure permanent housingopportunities for participants of SHERO, a transitional housing consortium for women and gender expansivepeople directly impacted by the criminal legal system. Direct responsibilities include orienting all eligibleparticipants to the housing programs/services, providing housing search and supportive services to promoteresidents' self-sufficiency, integration into the community and permanency in housing. Please visit our website for more information regardingour organization www.housingplusnyc.org.RequirementsResponsibilities:Conduct immediate and comprehensive assessment of permanent housing needs for SHERO residentsupon their transitional housing program enrollment. Develop an individualized housing plan for eachresident and obtain necessary consents.Coordinate all housing-related services and communicate clearly and in a timely fashion to projectpartners regarding clients' housing plans and progress. Participate in housing-related case conferencesand community-based appointments, as needed.Complete applications for various housing vouchers and subsidies, affordable and supportive housingapplications, and conduct all follow-up work for the applications.Assist in the development and maintenance of a housing resource database to assist clients in linking topermanent housing. Cultivate and maintain relationships with outside agencies, including community-based housing support programs, NYCHA, HRA, HPD, realtors, and landlords.Maintain all confidential information and records. Complete applicable consent forms, documentationand case management notes related to housing plans and housing progress in case records, according toall contractual & regulatory standards. Participate in monthly program meetings, and other SHERO-related meetings as needed. Keep abreast of developments related to city housing policy and initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:Associates or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience providing housingspecialist services.Extensive knowledge of New York City permanent housing opportunities, including housing vouchers,affordable housing and subsidy programs; supportive housing (HRA 2010-E) eligibility requirements andapplication processes in CAPS; Section 8 and NYCHA qualifications; and other rental assistanceprograms.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to collaborate successfully with multipleproject and community partners. Demonstrated case management and organizational skills. Effective time management skills and the ability to balance a work schedule that is demanding and based both in the office and in the field.Experience working with women and/or justice-involved individuals is preferred.
