Job Description:
A D.C. Law Firm is seeking an HR Manager to join their team on a fully remote basis. The HR Manager manages all human resource matters regarding attorneys and staff throughout the firm. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to administration of hiring, assignments, supervision, training, professional development, performance evaluation, discipline, termination, salary and bonus administration, and maintenance of human resource records.   • Collaborate closely with the management committee to design and execute HR strategies that align with the firm's goals and values.
  • Develop and implement personnel policies and procedures, including the maintenance of the Employee and Attorney Handbooks.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations, ensuring adherence through meticulous attention to detail and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Respond to EEOC, ADA, and workers' compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Manage the recruitment of attorneys and professional staff, including job postings, interview processes, and on/off-boarding procedures, ensuring seamless transitions and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Manage the onboarding process and conduct new-hire orientation for both staff and attorneys, ensuring that all new-hires understand the policies and procedures set forth in the Handbooks.
  • Manage employee relation issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Manage performance review process, including goal setting, performance evaluations, and feedback mechanisms, to drive employee development and performance improvement.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement programs to enhance job satisfaction and reduce turnover.
  • Participate in the Culture/Wellness Committee and DEI Committee with initiatives and planning and executing events.
  • Lead attorney and staff departure processes, including conducting thorough exit interviews, to ensure seamless transitions and capture valuable feedback for organizational improvement.
  • Perform benefits administration, including managing the annual renewal process and provider negotiations.
  • Maintain human resources information system records and compile reports as necessary.
  • Oversee the administration of payroll; process payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, merit increases).
  • Compile employee time, production, and payroll data from time sheets and other records, manage vacation and sick time requests and approvals of all staff.
  • Any additional responsibilities as required by management.
Job Requirements:
  • 8+ years of human resource administration and employee relations experience in a law firm.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to assist in conflict resolution in the workplace.
  • Able to use database software, spreadsheet, and word processing software and equipment to complete analysis and reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business or related area
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification strongly desired
