Job Code 19211 Recruitment Pool All Applicants Posting Number req6194 Unit Athletics MBU Department Athletics Department Website Link Location VCU Address 907 Floyd Ave, Richmond, VA 23284 USA Duties & ResponsibilitiesVCU Athletics is seeking a detail-loving, dependable, and meticulous professional for the Human Resource/Student Services area.Summary: The purpose of the HR & Student Services Coordinator is to provide professional operational execution of human resource and student-athlete services to support the VCU Department of Athletics. This position reports to the Director of Human Resource & Student Services and serves as a trusted advisor for student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Typical Duties
  • Manage the Student-Athlete Services function by carrying out major assignments related to athletic financial aid, student visas, international taxes;
  • Interact, both orally and in writing, with various VCU Departments (Financial Aid, Student Accounting, Admissions, Housing, Dining Services), as well as with parents, student-athletes, and coaches as it relates to the variety of student-athlete services;
  • Analyze student accounts, and calculate athletic aid awards, working with VCU Financial Aid, Student Accounting and Athletic Compliance to apply athletics financial aid through accurate interpretation of NCAA rules and regulations;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pertinent regulations and policies governing the grant-in-aid program;
  • Oversee the VCU Athletics Book library through management of the library database, book inventory, distribution and collection of books, and the completion of fiscal reconciliations in accordance with VCU and NCAA policies;
  • Manage the student-athlete on-boarding process, constantly communication with incoming student-athletes, administrators and coaches regarding important matters pertinent to the student-athlete's successful transition to VCU;
  • Serve as the Human Resource Associate for VCU Athletics demonstrating sound judgement and decision-making in providing expertise related to Human Resources;
  • Oversee recruitment and selection for all work-study, hourly, and student-worker positions;
  • Manage the new hire on-boarding process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of ExpressHire and HireRight, reviewing new hire paperwork for accuracy and submitting to University HR, scheduling NEO and facilitating VCU ID card, parking and email set-up process;
  • Manage affiliate and volunteer process for Athletics, coordinating all appointment requests, administering appointment letters, and on-boarding;
  • Serve as the official timekeeper for VCU Athletics using the RealTime and Banner information systems;
  • Manage the employment separation process;
  • Manage Sports Medicine Team Room reservations.
QualificationsPreferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within higher education, preferably with a NCAA Division l Athletic Department;
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, especially related to grant-in-aid;
  • PHR/SHRM-CP certification
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Familiarity with financial aid and student accounting policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of appropriate reconciliation and analysis procedures for fiscal records and reports;
  • Experience working in an HR position advising, guiding and consulting with managers and employees;
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and building partnerships with internal teams and stakeholders in a diverse organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills to problem solve and develop solutions;
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, explain and apply HR policies, state and federal regulations and protocols;
  • Outstanding customer service skills and a high level of professionalism;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communication verbally and in writing with all individuals in a diverse community;
  • Resourcefulness with the ability to adapt to change and ambiguity;
  • Ability to exercise strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment and to set/meet deadlines, organize workload and juggle changing priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint), FileMaker Pro, and HR Information Systems;
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or the commitment to so at VCU.
