DutiesAs a Human Resources Assistant, you will:
- Perform work associated with the recruitment, examination, selection, and placement of employees; applies personnel evaluation and staffing techniques in determining that applicants meet the requirements for employment or in ranking eligibles.
- Performs administrative support work that involves human resources (HR) assistance work requiring a substantial knowledge of civilian HR terminology, requirements, procedures, operations, functions, and regulatory policy and procedural requirements applicable to HR transactions.
- Provide assistance to HR Specialists responsible for managing the DOC political program and bureau SES/SL/ST requests, and working recruitment, selection, and performance actions for select DOC bureaus.
- Perform administrative assistance duties in support of the Director in the Office of Executive Resources (OER) involving executive resources matters concerning political and senior level (SES/ST/SL) requests.

QualificationsQualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. The system replaced the Federal GS pay plan structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. Non supervisory positions cap out at interval 3 of the band.The ZS-5 is equivalent to the GS-9/10 grade levels.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. To qualify at the ZS-5, You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 or ZS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience:
- Applying staffing techniques and making qualification determinations of applications; and
- Responding orally and in writing to requests for information or telephone and email inquiries; and
- Utilizing a wide range of office automation software to produce documents, reports, and/or spreadsheets; and
- Providing human resources support services to an office or organization (recruitment, selection and placement of employees)
ORA master's degree or 2 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a course of study (e.g. Human Resources) that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/ competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position.ORA combination of the above graduate-level education and experience.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
