Position Overview:
The Director of Human Resources (HR) will serve as a strategic leader responsible for overseeing and managing all HR functions within the school district. This role involves ensuring that the district attracts, develops, and retains high-quality educators and staff who align with the district's mission of providing an exceptional education. The Director of HR will focus on fostering a culture of professionalism, equity, and inclusion while ensuring compliance with employment laws, policies, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the district's vision and goals.
- Collaborate with district leadership to forecast staffing needs and manage workforce planning.
- Advise the superintendent and school board on HR trends, risks, and opportunities.
Talent Acquisition & Retention:
- Lead recruitment efforts to attract qualified candidates for teaching, administrative, and support roles.
- Oversee onboarding programs to ensure new employees are integrated effectively.
- Develop initiatives to retain top talent and reduce turnover.
Employee Relations:
- Serve as a resource for resolving employee concerns and conflicts, promoting a positive work environment.
- Conduct investigations related to workplace issues and ensure fair resolutions.
- Manage performance review systems and assist in addressing underperformance.
Professional Development:
- Oversee professional growth programs for staff, including training and leadership development.
- Identify opportunities for continuous learning and skills enhancement.
Compliance & Policy Management:
- Ensure the district complies with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Develop, review, and update HR policies and procedures.
- Manage employment contracts, certifications, and licensure requirements for staff.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Oversee the administration of employee benefits and compensation plans.
- Analyze market trends to maintain competitive salary structures.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):
- Champion DEI initiatives to build an inclusive workforce that reflects the community's diversity.
- Implement programs that promote equity in hiring, promotion, and workplace practices.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Manage the HR department budget effectively, aligning resources with district priorities.
- Oversee HR systems and technology to improve efficiency and data management.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably within a school district or educational organization.
- Knowledge of employment law, collective bargaining, and labor relations.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven experience in conflict resolution and employee relations.
- Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and data-driven decision-making.
