Our prestigious automotive client in Manhattan is seeking a dynamic Labor Relations Manager to join their team. In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, resolving workplace disputes, and ensuring compliance with labor laws while spearheading initiatives to boost employee engagement and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreements: Lead negotiations between labor unions and management, focusing on wages, hours, benefits, and working conditions.
- Resolving Workplace Disputes: Handle grievances and disputes between employees and management, ensuring fair resolutions in line with labor laws and company policies.
- Interpreting Labor Laws and Regulations: Stay current with federal, state, and local labor laws to ensure compliance in all labor relations activities.
- Implementing Labor Relations Programs: Develop and execute programs to foster positive labor-management relations, including training sessions, communication strategies, and conflict resolution processes.
- Advising Management: Provide strategic guidance and advice to management on labor relations issues, including legal implications and best practices.
- Monitoring Labor Relations Metrics: Track key metrics related to labor relations, such as grievance resolution times, union membership trends, and employee satisfaction.
- Preparing Reports: Compile and analyze data to prepare comprehensive reports for senior management and regulatory agencies.
- Mediating Negotiations: Act as a mediator during contract negotiations or labor-related discussions to facilitate productive dialogue.
- Educating Employees and Management: Conduct educational sessions or workshops to inform employees and management about their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of positive labor relations.
- Collaborating with HR and Legal Teams: Work closely with Human Resources and legal departments to ensure alignment on labor relations strategies and policies.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in labor relations, preferably with experience working closely with the UAW or within a union.
- Industry Background: Experience in manufacturing or retail preferred, with a deep understanding of representing service technicians.
- Communication Skills: Ability to adapt communication styles and approaches to effectively engage with employees at all levels, from front-line workers to legal teams, the UAW, and corporate management.
- Cultural Competence: Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable to effectively communicate with a diverse workforce.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading negotiations, resolving conflicts, and implementing effective labor relations programs.
