Job Summary:

The Human Resources Manager reports to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees all aspects of HR operations, including compliance, talent management, employee relations and compensation. The HR Manager serves as a subject-matter expert, leveraging insights to address key people and business challenges while fostering leadership development and organizational growth. This role ensures compliance with employment laws, manages benefits and payroll processes, and develops training programs aligned with company goals. The position requires strong problem-solving, collaboration, and organizational skills, with a focus on improving HR processes and supporting a multi-state, hybrid workforce.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for the business, using external and internal insights, data and trends to identify and help solve key people and business issues;
  • Lead the prioritization of learning, talent, and compensation activities in partnership with production management, company partners and operations to support business priorities and goals;
  • Provide benchmarking research on employee salaries to ensure the company stays competitive;
  • Manage all aspects of payroll processing including but not limited to data entry, calculations, deductions, tax filings, and distribution of paychecks;
  • Take initiative to manage and lead company projects that fall within the HR function across management, departments, and companywide.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Have a strong understanding of employment tax in varying states;
  • Strong working knowledge of US employment legislation;
  • Through internal partnerships (ex. Legal, Compliance, Operations, Recruiting, etc.) lead local and international employment and compliance considerations;
  • Develop and implement effective processes and procedures;
  • Provide support and guidance to HR staff and management on complex and sensitive issues, including administering and executing highly confidential tasks such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigations, and terminations;
  • Develop and implement organizational training including interviewing, hiring, terminating, employee promotions, performance review, employee safety, sexual harassment and diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment activities, including posting jobs, creating job descriptions, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and ensuring a seamless hiring process;
  • Onboard new employees including setting them up in the HRIS system, conducting new-hire orientation, and collecting all new-hire documents;
  • Continuously seek to improve all HR processes including recruiting, onboarding, performance management; employee retention, and employee relations;
  • Manage all unemployment communication for employees across all states;
  • Keep electronic employee personnel files organized, and up to date with all pertinent documents;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. employment legislation and lead employment and compliance initiatives in collaboration with internal partners such as Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Recruiting. Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, ADA, and EEOC, across multiple states and jurisdictions;
  • Review data entries specific to payroll. Execute processing of payroll function;
  • Manage all employee leaves, including FMLA, Parental Leave, etc.;
  • Manage all employee benefits including 401K, medical, dental and vision coverage;
  • Self-motivate and work effectively under deadline pressure while coordinating multiple tasks;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to take initiative, research solutions, and ask questions;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations;
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills with the ability to handle confidential matters tactfully;
  • Proven organizational and time-management skills, meeting deadlines with attention to detail and adaptability;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, and seek solutions proactively;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including PivotTables, basic and advanced formulas/functions), Word, and PowerPoint;
  • Familiarity with software such as PayNW, other HRIS systems, and/or Asana;
  • Positive can-do attitude, willingness to learn new systems, and strong professional references;
  • Experience partnering with business leaders and handling complex projects effectively;
  • Track record of independent problem-solving.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field preferred;
  • 5+ years' human resources experience, including 2-3 years exposure to a multi-state, multi-unit environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work Environment:

  • This role routinely requires using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers;
  • Must be able to operate various electronic devices.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time Hybrid role, defined as a combination of remote and in-office / on-site work within the Greater Seattle Area (King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties). You are expected to work in the office at least 3 days a week, depending on project necessity. This role will be expected to work remotely when there is no onsite work. The office generally operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the days and hours of this position may vary week-to-week. Mighty Media's workplace policies are subject to change at any time based on business necessity and manager discretion.
