Its extensive collections provide unique insight into the creative process of writers and artists, deepening our understanding and appreciation of literature, photography, film, art, and the performing arts. Visitors engage with the Center's collections through research and study, exhibitions, publications, and a rich variety of program offerings including readings, talks, symposia, and film screenings. The Ransom Center encourages discovery, inspires creativity, and advances understanding of the humanities for a broad audience through the preservation and sharing of its extraordinary collections. Purpose Photographs and digitizes collection materials in the Harry Ransom Center. Ensures quality control of digital images. Supports departmental workflows and job completion. Maintains hardware and software in the Center's photography studio. Responsibilities Assesses digitization needs and performs digital imaging of the Harry Ransom Centers collections using digital cameras and other digital equipment, including the Digital Transition BC100 and RGC180. Coordinating lab schedules and assigning digitization and post-processing tasks to student associates. Advises on best arrangement of materials to be photographed or angle of shots to produce desired results. Handles fragile and rare collection materials under established best practices Ensures quality control of digital images. Performs post-processing tasks such as color correction and image enhancement for digital images; monitors, calibrates, and adjusts settings on hardware and software tools as needed; processes and prepares digital files for archiving, printing, and access. Maintains hardware and software; troubleshoots hardware and software; provides technical support. Trains, supervises, and reviews work of student staff in the lab. Consults and serves as a resource for staff on issues of digitization and the use of imaging hardware and software, as needed. Works with staff in Digital Collection Services and/or other departments to create, revise, and align production workflows; creates and maintains workflow documentation. May train and assist colleagues on issues pertaining to imaging and studio practices. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications A BA in a photography-related field or Library Science, such as Library and Information Science, Photography, Digital Archives, Museum Studies, etc. Demonstrated experience with digital photography and digital reformatting. Advanced knowledge of digital imaging software and hardware. Familiarity with Capture One and/or Adobe Photoshop. Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in, or management of, a professional photography studio or digitization lab. Familiarity with handling fragile library, archival, and museum materials. Salary Range $42,000+ depending on qualifications Working Conditions May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Work Shift Offering either 30 or 40 hours per week depending on candidate's availability with f lexible hours from M-F, 8-5.
