Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated on the basis of knowledge and demonstrated proficiencies, compliance with legal requirements and standards, and other performance criteria. DUTIES
- Provides daily living assistance for senior citizens in their homes, ensuring the maintenance of a clean and safe home environment.
- Performs all duties in compliance with the Care and Service Plan provided, as well as applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.
- Assists clients with household and personal tasks, including but not limited to shopping for groceries, preparing meals, washing dishes, performing housecleaning duties, removing trash, making beds, laundering linens and clothes, ironing, mending clothes, paying bills, scheduling medical appointments, etc.
- Runs errands to pick up medicines and supplies.
- Monitors clients' needs; notifies supervisor of any problems or issues encountered.
- Receives and responds to client inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints regarding areas of responsibility.
- Prepares records of daily work completed.
- Operates kitchen appliances and cleaning equipment; uses cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, small hand tools.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, department head, co-workers, clients and their family members, and the general public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Bladen County Division on Aging as they pertain to the performance of duties of the In-Home Aide.
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information.
- Ability to provide assistance to senior citizens with a variety of daily living tasks, including housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping and household organization.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of kitchen and cleaning equipment and tools as necessary in the performance of daily activities.
- Ability to maintain clean, orderly and safe home environments for clients.
- Ability to effectively monitor clients' needs and to react appropriately and promptly to any problems encountered.
- Knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, punctuation and spelling; has knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Ability to prepare simple records with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Ability to read and interpret various materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
- Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
- Ability to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks. Is able to offer assistance to fellow employees as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Special Requirements

- CPR, First Aid and blood-borne pathogens certifications.

Vacation LeaveEmployees accrue annual leave monthly and may use accrued leave upon approval after the probationary period is completed. Years of service transferred from eligible NC Governmental Agencies (written documentation required) and the employee's work schedule are used to determine the rate of earning.
Petty LeaveEmployees earn fourteen (14) hours per calendar year. May use in increments of 15 minutes. Leave is pro-rated based as of date of hire in the first calendar year of employment. Petty leave must be used within the calendar year.
