Salary: $23.93 - $39.49 Hourly Location : Titusville, FL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 24-015 Department: Water Resources - 1601 Opening Date: 07/29/2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: LIUNA JOB SUMMARY This is skilled work at the Journeyman Electrician level involving both rough/finished electrical work, variable frequency drive (VFD) setup/programming and motor controls for industrial equipment. Incumbent works in accordance with standard practices of electrical trade and is allowed latitude in determining work procedures. Work involves installation, troubleshooting and repair of 1-phase/3-phase electrical circuits, controls and equipment up to 480 volts. Work is performed under the direction of the Chief Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Supervisor or similar. We're thrilled to offer a $4,000 sign-on bonus! ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
  • Installs, repairs and maintains electrical services in City-owned treatment plants, well fields, buildings, lift stations, etc.
  • Repairs, installs, maintains and calibrates of all types of electrical equipment and instrumentation. Installs, repairs and maintains electrical outlets, lights, conduit, fuse boxes, etc. Maintains emergency power systems.
  • Installs, repairs, rebuilds and maintains electrical equipment including motors, motor starters, relays, pressure switches, circuit breakers, VFDs and controllers.
  • Directly responsible for and must conform to electrical and mechanical maintenance standards and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance and maintains appropriate records.
  • Assists in other maintenance operations when needed. Performs supervisory duties in the absence of the Supervisor when required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code and standard methods, materials, tools, codes and practices of the electrical trade. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions of the electrical trade.
  • Able to troubleshoot/repair problems in complex electrical systems and VFD setup/programming. Able to plan, layout and perform electrical work of average difficulty. Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and schematics.
  • Able to use computer for record keeping activities and equipment setup/diagnosis.
  • Able to analyze problems and reach conclusions using independent judgment.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team. Able to coordinate activities of peers, to direct subordinates and to report to supervisor.
  • Able to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Skill and ability to work with high voltage electrical distribution systems. Skill in the care and use of tools such as megger, digital and analog multi meters, amp probe, and ATS.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High school graduate or equivalent diploma is required plus five years' experience in the electrician trade, or two years post graduate formal/vocational education plus three years trade experience. One year of electrician experience with industrial equipment and controllers is required. One year of supervisory experience is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must possess a Brevard County Journeyman Electrician License with ability to obtain the Master License within one year from date of hire. Ability to respond to plant callouts and serve in an on-call rotation. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Fully literate in reading and speaking English. Able to operate the required electrician tools, electronics diagnostics equipment and safety equipment. Able to use standard tools for demolition, excavation and compaction. Able to safely operate a vehicle over rough terrain, a manual transmission truck and a boom truck. Able to work long hours outdoors, including in adverse weather, confined spaces, tanks, excavations and around wastewater. Able to climb stairs and ladders frequently, and work at heights up to 150' above ground infrequently. Able to enter confined spaces such as well pits, valve pits, tanks, and excavations frequently. Able to perform CPR, first aid and other Department rescue procedures. Specific sensory abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, vision focus and hearing the human audio spectrum. Able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis, and carry up to 50 pounds for distances of up to 50 feet infrequently. During occasions of local emergencies this position may be required to report to perform emergency tasks, which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members. The Incident Commander and the employee's Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
