JOB PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY:

The Motion Controls Engineer is the field sales force's primary technical resource and is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the Applications Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to ensure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. The Controls Engineer can establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applications Support

  • Communicates with internal sales organizations and customers to analyze potential business opportunities to obtain or derive application specifications
  • Utilizes common knowledge and associated software tools for sizing and selection of system components as related to motion control system requirements
  • Evaluate and determine appropriate control system architecture and bill of materials for quote preparation
  • Development of application specifications and statements of work as related to applicable system integration requirements
  • Evaluate and recommend control system and component upgrades to legacy-based solutions for existing applications

Programming and Software Development

  • Designs, develops, and programs code for motion and logic controllers per application requirements
  • Designs, develops, and programs human-machine interface devices per application requirements
  • Designs, develops, and programs machine safety control systems and solutions as related to best practice machine safety requirements
  • Maintain working knowledge of industry standards as related to networking and various fieldbus communication interfaces

Field Service and Project Support

  • Provide phone and on-site support as needed for troubleshooting component or control system warnings or error codes
  • Maintain a working knowledge to the best of the ability of legacy system components
  • Work with 3rd party integrators and field service technicians as needed per project requirement
  • Provide startup & debug services for system commissioning requirements

Clerical/General Administrative

  • Respond to routine emails, phone calls, etc.
  • Make copies, print documents, etc.
  • File paperwork

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related Discipline
  • Minimum of three years' experience in the automation industry
  • Programming of motion and logic controllers
  • Configuring and design of HMI/OIT systems
  • Experience with Industry standards UL and CE is a plus Undergraduate Student currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Light lifting and carrying-must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and lift and/or move 25 pound
  • Ability to speak to and hear employees/customers via phone or in person
  • Ability to speak to and hear employees/customers via phone or in person
  • Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around an office or shop environment.
  • Ability to analyze unique situations and develop appropriate response
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex engineering documents

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office hours average 40 per week Monday through Friday 8am-5pm; may require additional hours including evening and weekends depending on business needs
  • Work typically performed in an indoor office setting

  • Personal computer, copier, fax/scanner, phone, and other typical office equipment
  • CAD software platforms, SolidWorks & AutoCAD

Travel

  • Minimal up to 10% of the time
