SUMMARY OF POSITION Maintain operation of machinery and mechanical equipment in Manufacturing, Packaging, PDTS, and Supply Chain (Exclusive of High Rise and Material Handling Jacks and Fork Lifts) by completing preventive maintenance requirements, performing mechanical repairs, work orders, and troubleshooting following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications. ORGANIZATION STRUCTUREThe Industrial Maintenance Mechanic reports directly to their Operations Shift Manager.RESPONSIBILITIESPrimary responsibilities of this role include the following:
- Troubleshoot, repair or maintain the operating condition of industrial production or processing machinery.
- Disassemble, repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of equipment such as bearings, chain and mechanical drives, belt drives, pulleys, sprockets, gears, levers, cranks, linkages, springs, shaft couplers, brakes, clutches, cams, followers, cylinders, pumps, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, pneumatic devices, lock out valves, filters, regulators, air lines, adjust/replace mechanical sensors, limit switches, and prox switches.
- Identify faulty equipment through observation and systematic testing.
- Assess the condition of used parts using micrometers, calipers, machinist rulers, depth gauges, feeler gauges, dial indicators, screw pitch gauges, squares/levels, and specifications.
- Able to safely select and work from ladders, lifts, and platforms as required
- Observe and test the operation of machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing or repairs.
- Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment.
- Safely operate fork lifts, power tools, hoists and hand tools such as hacksaws, files, punches, electric drills, taps/dies, pullers, drill press, bench grinder, cut off saw, band saw, hydraulic press, mechanical arbor press, chop saw, parts washer, belt/disc sander, etc.
- Move portable equipment with the use of pallet jacks, electric jacks, or forklift
- Uncrate new equipment and dispose of crating and pallet materials
- Measure and adjust pneumatic and hydraulic components utilizing appropriate instruments (air regulator/pressure gauge).
- Verify the adequacy of repairs.
- Study blueprints or manufacturers' manuals, data sheets, function charts, schematics to determine correct installation or operation of machinery.
- Work with the Stock Room personnel to maintain parts and tools inventory.
- Source replacement parts and perform repairs.
- Work with maintenance resources to maintain/update the equipment PM's
- Attend daily shift meetings to prioritize work orders and minimize downtime.
- Work along with production scheduling to schedule preventive maintenance activities and provide estimated duration for the work being scheduled.
- Maintain pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical knowledge via on-going training, industry workshops and technical reading when available.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in priorities, work assignments, work conditions and other interactions that may impact preestablished courses of action for completing projects and assignments.
- Ability to identify information, materials, and resources needed to complete a project or assignment.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks or parts of tasks simultaneously to ensure timely completion of projects and other work activities.
- Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safely complete work assignments.
- Knowledge of safe and responsible operation, maintenance, and organization required for tools and equipment used for Maintenance to protect self and others in the work place.
- Ability to perform basic Electrical Skills to allow safe disconnection of motors and components for repair and troubleshooting.
Documentation Expectations:
- Record parts or materials used on the work order or breakdown sheet.
- Prepare maintenance reports and summary presentations following major repair events
- Participate in process reliability data analysis and trends discussions with Engineering to determine root cause and next steps.
- Work with maintenance resources to continually update the equipment PM's
- Author Change Controls and update PM's accordingly
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:
- Mechanical Experience
- Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanics
- Team player and willing to work with minimal supervision
- Attention to Detail
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- High school diploma or GED Comfortable with computers and the use of MS Office Suite programs
- Capable of operating hand, power and specialized tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years industrial maintenance or equipment mechanic experience
- Advanced knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Understanding of electrical systems and automated equipment
- Advanced technical or college training
GMP DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
- Provide Technical input for investigations to determine possible causes, support root cause determination efforts, and develop/assign appropriate corrective actions.
