Pay: $32 - $35/hour

Position Type: Direct Hire

Location: Elgin, IL

Shift: 1st Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a skilled Industrial Mechanic to join their team. Our client specializes in plastic injection molding. The ideal candidate will perform troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance (PM) on machinery and equipment to ensure maximum operational efficiency. This role involves collaboration with production teams to meet company goals while adhering to safety and housekeeping standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment (e.g., conveyors, chillers, dryers), and facility systems.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, capital projects, and repair tasks based on production priorities.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues, including PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Support the installation, setup, and calibration of new equipment to ensure operational readiness.

Safety and Housekeeping:

  • Lead by example in enforcing safety rules and ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned areas to meet set housekeeping standards.
  • Document and communicate all safety incidents promptly.

Inventory and Documentation:

  • Track, manage, and request maintenance supplies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, work orders, and equipment tracking.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed correctly and submitted on time.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other shift leads and managers to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Provide detailed communication during shift handovers to maintain workflow consistency.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing maintenance experience, ideally in a plastic injection molding environment.
  • Basic computer skills and fluency in English.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, including:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Evidence of training in 3-phase electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience programming and installing PLCs.
  • Familiarity with forklift operation and system controls.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly use hands for handling, reaching, and operating tools or machinery.
  • Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally climb or balance and lift/move objects up to 50 pounds, with occasional handling of items over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing/warehouse setting with exposure to moderate-to-high noise levels.
  • Frequent exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, and outdoor conditions during the workday.
  • Proper PPE will be provided to ensure safety.
