This shift is Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. located at 536 Michigan Street, Topeka, Indiana.POSITION STATEMENT:The Industrial Sewing Operator will be able to efficiently construct needed products in a skilled manner. In the completion of these duties, he or she will provide a necessary link between efficient use of time, materials, and skills in constructing quality products for customers of Wieland Designs, Inc.MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrate basic sewing skills and/or aptitude through a sewing assessment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
- Dependability in work performance and attendance.
- Willingness to rotate with other operators on various job processes according to the department schedule.
Shift Time:
- 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday - Friday
QualificationsPRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Administrative and Business Skills:
- Understand and apply customer (internal and external) quality expectations.
- Understand the Hour-By-Hour Chart cell performance chart.
- Basic understanding of a One Piece Pull system verses a Batch and Push system.Technical Skills:
- Understand and apply Wieland Designs Production Systems (WDPS) terms such as Takt Time, Operator Cycle Time, Standard Work, etc.
- Interpret information from the Hour-By-Hour chart and make proper adjustments to work within the cell.
- Properly operate industrial sewing machines according to company requirements and standards.Interpersonal Skills:
- Demonstrate ability to cross-train to multiple products.
- Ability to cross-train in multiple processes within the sewing cells.
- Demonstrate ability to work within a sewing cell.
Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Physical demands: Must be able to stand 8-10 hours per day and operate industrial sewing machines. Repetitive movements required with arms grasping material with hands while operating industrial sewing machine. Must have good visual ability in order to determine straight seam lines and make color distinctions on various fabric and materials. Must be able to lift 8-10 pounds consistently, and occasionally 20 pounds.
- Work environment: Consistent low noise level from sewing machines. Small airborne dust particles created from handling cloth fabrics. Department is not air conditioned. Must be able to work in a non-air conditioned production plant.
