Industry Employment Specialist - CUNY Inclusive Economy Initiative - Engineering & Environmental SciencePOSITION DETAILSThe Office of Careers & Industry Partnerships (OCIP) at the City University of New York seeks Industry and Employer Engagement Specialists to identify career opportunities andgrow hiring pipelines for CUNY students and graduates.Specialists will engage with employers in defining workforce needs, identifying hiring challenges and opportunities, specifying skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles, and exploring partnerships to help grow New York's emerging industries.The selected individual will work within the Department of Engineering & Environmental Science (EES) at the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York (CUNY) and focus on the internship and full-time job needs of its 450+ undergraduate and graduate students. Industry areas in any Engineering discipline, the emerging off-shore wind (OSW) and power generation and distribution sectors as well as Earth & Environmental Science are all of great interest. Great working relationship with our hybrid-advisor will ensure that our program develops smoothly.The Department of EES has a full-time faculty of 16, supplemented with over 15 part-time faculty members. It offers the Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Engineering Science and the BS in Electrical Engineering (EE) and both degrees are ABET-accredited. The Engineering Science program offers two specializations usually taken in the junior and senior years for students to explore and prepare for particular areas of engineering. Specializations are in Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering (MechE) with another in a cross-disciplinary area of Engineering (perhaps Environmental, Renewable Power Generation/Transmission) currently under consideration.The department also offers BS degrees in Earth & Environmental Science and Earth & Environmental Science 7-12, a minor in Geology, an Associate in Science (AS) in Engineering Science (with EE and MechE specializations) as well as a Masters in Engineering (ME) in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Science (MS) in Environmental Science. The PhD program in Environmental Science is administered by and through the CUNY Graduate Center and the PhD programs in EE and Mech-E are administered through the City College of NY (CCNY) with which our department is in close collaboration.Build a Community:+ Secure partnerships with employers offering paid internship, clinical placement, and full-time job opportunities to students with target majors+ Continuously cultivate and grow employer relationships+ Share employment opportunities and, where appropriate, refer qualified students to employers for specific roles.Establish a Peer Network:+ Coordinate with other industry specialists, campus career offices and CUNY leadership to maximize industry partnerships benefiting the campus and to learn about student and employer needs.Create Pathways:+ Secure paid internships and full-time job offers within target majors for our newest graduates.Communicate and Improve:+ Share knowledge with faculty, advisors, and the broader campus to encourage alignment with in-demand skills+ Participate in CUNY-wide training and events and utilize common tools deployed across the initiative.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.Preferred Qualifications include:+ Experience in career services or economic or workforce development+ Experience with community and business outreach, ideally in implementing talent acquisition, outreach strategies, and business development+ Understanding of business and recruitment and hiring practices in key sectors of the NYC economy; the focus is on Engineering, Environmental Science and green energy).+ Track record of working well as part of a team with excellent communication skillsCUNY TITLE OVERVIEWSupports an academic internship program providing career development and professional work experience.* Acts as liaison between the College and employer sponsors, monitoring the success of students' internship experiences* Supervises student internships, assuring adherence to related College and governmental policies and regulations* Creates and conducts orientation sessions and workshops for students in the internship program; coordinates applications, interviews, and placement as part of overall student outreach* Provides faculty orientation and development related to internship programs* Implements and evaluates competencies and other success factors* Performs related duties as assigned.CUNY TITLEHigher Education AssistantFLSAExemptCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS$93,134 - $99,532Salary commensurate with education and experience.CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
