OverviewThe Infection Prevention Associate is responsible for tasks involving surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); supporting the education of employees about infection prevention and the development of health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other nationally organized agencies recommendations and requirements.This position is open to both RNs and non RNsThis position is open to candidates with no formal infection prevention experience as well as experienced infection preventionists; there are opportunities for placement into an experienced infection prevention position for qualified candidates.ResponsibilitiesDevelops, reviews and revises infection prevention policies and recommendations as delegated by the infection preventionists and program leaders.Using published literature and evidence based guidelines, supports the development and presentation of orientation and education programs related to infection prevention and control for medical center personnel at all levels.Coordinates the implementation of infection prevention and control programs and activities and monitoring procedures.Participates in development of the Infection Prevention and Control plan and assists with medical center-wide implementation and education.Reviews laboratory reports and clinical data to identify and record healthcare associated infections that have been selected for ongoing surveillance. Applies definitions provided by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), or as modified by the Infection Prevention program.Collects and records information to enable data analysis for trends, unusual clusters or outbreaks.Participates in analysis of healthcare-associated infection data and in the development and dissemination of feedback.. Works collaboratively with public health departments to ensure accurate and timely reporting of infectious diseases as required by state reporting rules.Works collaboratively with internal and external customers, including Occupational Health, Environmental Health and Safety and public health departments to promote infection prevention activities. Supports the infection preventionists in reporting infections and when responding to potential exposures among personnel and patients.Knowledgeable in current Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory requirements which relate to Infection Prevention and Control and prepares for and participates in all surveys and readiness activities.Maintains records of all infection prevention activities, including surveillance, consultations and outbreak investigations. Develops, modifies and uses templates for record keeping.Participates in and provides administrative support to hospital based committees relating to infection prevention.Performs other duties as required or assigned.QualificationsBachelor's degree in a healthcare related field2 years of experience in a hospital setting requiredWord, PowerPoint, and Excel knowledge required.Demonstrated excellent written, oral and presentation skills with active and respectful listening skills desired.Demonstrated ability to interface collaboratively and effectively with physicians, administrators, nurses, other staff and students, representatives of regulatory bodies, consultants, and patients.Required Licensure/CertificationsCertification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within 2 years of employmentArea of Interest:Allied Health;FTE/Hours per pay period:1.00 - 1.00 - 40 hrs/week;Shift:Day;Job ID:26548;Dartmouth Health is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
