Job Title: Division Chief - Pediatric Infectious DiseaseLocation: Orange, California, USA (affiliated with CHOC - Children's Health of Orange County) Job Type: Full-time Overview: CHOC - Children's Health of Orange County, located in the vibrant city of Orange, California, in partnership with the University of California, Irvine (UCI), is seeking an exceptional Division Chief to lead our Infectious Disease division. This position is a joint appointment with responsibilities at both CHOC and UCI, but the employment will be solely with CHOC's Pediatric Subspecialty Faculty. As a premier pediatric healthcare institution, CHOC is committed to providing compassionate, innovative, and comprehensive care to children and adolescents with infectious diseases. The Infectious Disease division has been an integral part of CHOC's growth in clinical, research, and teaching areas for the last 35 years and is looking to expand its footprint in bench and translational research. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a passion for infectious disease and a dedication to advancing patient care, research, and education. Responsibilities:Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Provide visionary leadership for the Infectious Disease division at CHOC and UCI, aligning strategic goals with the mission and values of both the hospital and the University.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the highest standards of infectious disease care, safety, and infection control.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for division faculty, staff, and trainees, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Clinical Oversight and Practice:
- Oversee and participate in the clinical operations of the Infectious Disease division at CHOC, ensuring the continuity of excellent and compassionate, evidence-based care to patients. A minimum of 20 weeks in clinical service is expected.
- Maintain an active clinical practice within the division, providing expert consultation and care to children with infectious diseases and their families.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and enhance the quality of care provided.
Research and Innovation:
- Expand, promote, and support research initiatives within the division, including in areas related to infectious disease epidemiology, prevention, or treatment.
- Facilitate collaborative research projects with internal and external partners, securing external funding and advancing scientific knowledge.
- Achieve significant accomplishments in clinical, basic, or translational research, including involvement in improvement science, guideline development, and other national collaboratives. Principal investigator status in ongoing federally funded research is highly desirable.
- Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
Education and Training:
- Oversee the educational programs within the Infectious Disease division at CHOC, including infectious diseases fellowship training.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to trainees, fostering their professional development and preparing the next generation of infectious disease specialists.
- Develop and deliver educational activities for medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, with a focus on evidence-based practices and emerging infectious disease trends.
Community Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison between the division and community stakeholders, including pediatricians, public health agencies, schools, and advocacy organizations.
- Participate in community outreach activities, educational seminars, and public health campaigns to raise awareness of infectious diseases and promote preventive measures.
- Collaborate with local, state, and national partners to address infectious disease challenges, including vaccination advocacy, outbreak response, and public health policy development.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD, DO, or MBBS) from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Pediatric Infectious Disease.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in California.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Infectious Disease with a proven track record of excellence in patient care, research, and education.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a pediatric academic medical center or children's hospital setting, including a track record for mentoring early researchers.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
