Job Description:
Reporting to the Access Services and Resource Sharing Supervisor, and in cooperation with the Library Operations Manager and the Access Services Assistant, the Information Desk Monitor is responsible for the in-person and online patron information and referral services at the Library Information Desk, as well as providing exceptional customer service in support of student learning and engagement.
This is a part-time position of approximately 15 hours per week. The position covers weekend and evening hours.
Patron Services
Provide excellent customer service, both in-person and online, by responding to the information needs of students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the local community.
Assist users with the circulation of library materials, including materials circulated within RWU and materials circulated between HELIN Consortium member libraries.
Assist and instruct patrons in the use of library technology, including searching the library's integrated system and databases, and utilizing basic software available on the library's public computers.
Provide assistance with scanning, printing, photocopying, formatting documents, and troubleshooting related problems.
Respond to patron questions related to library policies and regulations.
Refer patrons to librarians and other Learning Commons partners, as needed.
Student Work Direction
Collaborate with the User Services Specialist and Access Services Assistant in providing work assignments for student assistants.
Refer issues of concern to the User Services Specialist.
Operations
Open and close the library in collaboration with the Office of Public Safety.
Assist with the security and safety of library patrons.
Additional Functions
Assist the Access Services Assistant with interlibrary loan processing.
Assist with the operation of the library's printers, scanners, and copiers.
Respect and maintain confidentiality and privacy within the library in adherence to the ALA Code of Ethics.
Requirements:
Associates degree in a related field.
A minimum of one year customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
One to three years academic library experience.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
