This role is nearly fully remote but will require 1 day a month in the office but often times it's less. They get the leaders together bi-monthly and also like to do architecture meetings in person from time to time so all candidates must reside in the Great Phoenix Metro.
We are seeking a highly technical and hands-on IT Systems Manager to lead and scale our systems infrastructure team. Your role will involve overseeing a team of system engineers and system admins. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with deep experience in Windows engineering, VMware, and cloud-based systems, particularly Azure. You will be responsible for ensuring that our systems are built for scale, mentoring your team, managing vendor relationships, and staying semi-hands-on to resolve high-level technical issues. Additionally, your expertise will help drive migrations, system improvements, and new tech implementations that will optimize our environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a distributed team of ~7 system engineers/admins
- Contribute to systems architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and high performance.
- Stay semi-hands-on to assist with critical system issues, troubleshooting, and high-level problem resolution.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of Windows Server environments, VMware, VDI, Endpoints, and patching.
- Identify and implement new technologies and tools to improve system performance and team efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, to drive system integration and enhancements.
- Ensure vendor accountability and manage relationships for optimized delivery of services and tools.
- Maintain and enhance Office 365/Exchange 365 environments, with a preference for experience in migrations from on-prem Exchange.
- Ensure systems are secure and compliant, monitoring performance using tools like SolarWinds, DataDog, and ELK.
- Manage server room infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, patching, and UPS configuration.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a hands-on IT Systems Manager or a related role managing teams of system engineers or system admins
- Strong background in Windows Engineering, including VMware, Windows Server, VDI, and PowerShell scripting.
- Hands-on experience with Office 365, Exchange 365, and related migrations.
- Knowledge of server room systems, including firewalls, switches, cabling, UPS, and monitoring equipment.
- Experience with monitoring and performance management tools (SolarWinds, DataDog, Elk, LogRythm, etc.).
- Strong understanding of networking and security fundamentals, with hands-on experience managing infrastructure.
- Solid experience with Azure, particularly with migrations, is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with Linux systems is a big plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Azure services and migration experience.
- Some Linux experience in a mixed Windows/Linux environment.
- Familiarity with HP/Dell SAN & Storage and enterprise-grade server hardware.
