Working Title: Information Technology Spec 2 Institution: Minnesota State College Southeast Classification Title: Information Technology Spec 2 Bargaining Unit / Union: 214: Minnesota Association of Professional Employees City: Red Wing FLSA: Non Job Exempt Full Time / Part Time: Full time Employment Condition: Classified - Unlimited Salary Range: $27.76 - $45.14 The Information Technology Specialist provides technical support to Southeast faculty, staff, and students, assists with technical support services, and participates with team members in providing a quality customer service center for IT clients. Helpdesk Operation - Provide walk-in and telephone technical support to Southeast faculty, staff, and students and participate with team members in providing a quality customer service center for IT clients.
  • Respond to Help Desk requests and activities from the incident tracking system, calls, walk-in client support, or email requests. Log Help Desk support activity in the incident tracking system.
  • Perform diagnostics on computers, network systems, printers, etc.
  • Assist students and faculty in the use of the computer lab systems.
  • Load PC software applications for IT clients as requested.
  • Follow licensing regulations regarding software installs.
  • Image laptops and desktops as needed, ensuring that the users have access to the technology resources on campus (ie. printing services, network services, network storage space).
  • Troubleshoot desktop/laptop problems to a satisfactory resolution for IT clients..
  • Complete and follow support processes for inventory change requests, employee onboarding and terminations, and all issues related to laptop/desktop assignments.
  • Communicate with IT team members ensuring that customer issues are handled in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair to desktop and laptop operations and connectivity following IT procedures and manufacturer documentation.
  • Install and configure computer peripheral devices.
  • Ensure that equipment is properly secured so that MSCS equipment is not lost or stolen.
  • Participate in team meetings and with project groups providing input to processes to improve our quality of service.
  • Know and follow Help Desk and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide basic software tutorial assistance to clients by phone or in person at the college.
  • Assist with the staff orientation and distribution process for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Set up and instruct clients as requested on the use of e-mail and login processes.
Learning Management System support. Provide initial level-1 support on LMS usage.
  • Provide the first point of contact for support requests for the college Learning Management System, D2L Brightspace. Utilize existing documentation and resources to answer incoming requests for assistance.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to appropriate resources in IT, within the academic staff, faculty, or the Minnesota State System Office.
  • Support college academic leadership initiatives for enhancements in LMS usage and standardizations.
Classroom Audio/Video Technology, Zoom Room, Hy-Flex connectivity support
  • Support, maintain, and configure, classroom teaching and audio/video equipment and connectivity.
  • Install and update audio/video technology systems and/or coordinate with A/V integration vendors on installation projects.
  • Maintain and manage the connection of Hy-Flex classrooms.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and recommend changes to classroom technology systems.
  • Research solutions and standards in classroom A/V systems.
Provide training to new computer and network users
  • Develop end-user help documents.
  • Develop an ongoing training calendar.
  • Develop documents on lab and application usage and keep the documents current on the IT page.
  • Develop training curriculum on IT-supported software.
Documentation
  • Create and maintain procedure manual for technical support operation.
  • Create end-user documentation as needed.
  • Provide classroom training for faculty and staff as needed.
  • Maintain a library of references and user manuals for staff usage.
  • Research technologies for upgrade recommendations to keep the college abreast of new technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2 years of relevant IT experience; an Associate degree in Information Technology may substitute for 6 months of experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based computer systems, printers, and networks.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems usage.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, varied web browsers, Adobe Acrobat, and other common PC applications.
  • Technical knowledge of PC Hardware.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technology issues in person or remotely.
  • Ability to install software, configure drivers, network communication, etc. on servers and PC's.
Preferred Qualification
  • Knowledge of software programs used at MSC-ST including academic and operation applications.
  • Experience with LMS system operation - D2L Brightspace experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel as required for the position.
  • Understanding of classroom audio/video system operation.
  • Experience with a broad variety of PC and web-based software.
