  • Evaluates computer hardware and software with regard to its selection or utilization or designs systems and software for accomplishment of work through computer technology.
  • Performs server and desktop installation, and basic cabling; in addition to systems administration of laptops, desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks.
  • Responsible for evaluation, selection, installation, acceptance testing, modification, maintenance, vendor liaison, training, distribution, customer support and general trouble shooting.
  • Consults with customers, analyze their needs, and ensure their participation in the development of IT solutions.

QualificationsThe position of Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support) falls under the 2210 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 11/29/2024.Basic Requirements: Degree in computer science , engineering , information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications , systems or networks.Experience - Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND
  • Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.To qualify for the GS-13 position: In addition to the the basic requirements above, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level, in the Federal service, which includes: 1) experience providing routine function, such as software backup, file restoration, software installation, hardware setup, reimages and configuring new laptops and desktops, and Smartphone/soft phones. 2) respond to customer requests for assistance via all methods, such as telephone, email or in person.In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed.
