Job TitleInformation Technology SpecialistLocationRockville, MDPosition SummaryThe Information Technology (IT) Specialist will manage the inspection and processing of IT property received at the NIH Division of Logistics Services (DLS) to ensure compliance with NIH Sanitization Policy and IT security standards. This role includes verifying the functionality of IT equipment, ensuring the secure removal of personal data, and assessing equipment suitability for redeployment or donation. The IT Specialist will be responsible for wiping or destroying hard drives to prevent any risk of data recovery.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInspect received IT equipment to determine if it is functional or non-functional and meets NIH redeployment standards.Ensure all personal data/information is securely removed from equipment in compliance with NIH Sanitization Policy.Evaluate IT property for redeployment to NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) or assess suitability for donation through the Direct Donation program.Oversee the secure wiping or destruction of hard drives to eliminate the risk of data retrieval, ensuring compliance with privacy standards.Maintain records of equipment assessments and data sanitization actions, providing documentation as needed.Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure all equipment meets NIH IT security and data protection requirements.QualificationsCollege degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in IT or a high school diploma with 5 years of relevant IT experience.Knowledge of IT security standards, including data sanitization protocols and best practices.Familiarity with handling and processing IT equipment in compliance with privacy policies.Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for assessing equipment functionality and data security.Ability to operate relevant data wiping and destruction tools.Excellent communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and documenting procedures.Must provide documentation of eligibility to legally work in the United States.Must be able to pass client background screening for security clearance.Work EnvironmentThis role operates within a logistics and technology environment, ensuring that IT equipment meets NIH data security and sanitization requirements.
