Maintains the University network and file servers. Provides high-level technical support, innovative solutions, and integrated proposals for network systems, including recommendations for network hardware and software acquisition, as appropriate. Supervises professional, technical staff, and/or students. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees the day-to-day operation of computer networks including hardware/software support, training, and special projects; provides planning, leadership, direction, and technical expertise to the campus on local and wide area network services and systems.
- Maintains network documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs, and other related information.
- Monitors usage to ensure the security of data and access privileges; installs, supports, and maintains both physical and virtual network servers and appliances. Maintains and updates AD, Exchange, and VMware clusters.
- Assists in installing, designing, configuring, and maintaining system hardware and software; analyzes and troubleshoots the network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems.
- Develops, maintains, and implements network support, and archiving procedures.
- Performs/recommends backup procedures for Servers.
- Maintains, monitors, and configures Network Storage (SAN)
- Identifies and coordinates all local campus network application services.
- Provides advice and assistance and serves as a key resource person to system and campus administrators concerning network services facilities.
- Provides technical oversight and assignment, supervision, and review of work performed by professionals, technical staff, and/or students.
- Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
- Plans, recommends, and assists in the design of telecommunications systems. Analyzes and updates VOIP network system. Researches and recommends telecommunications equipment; coordinates the ordering and installation of telecommunications and data systems equipment and cabling.
- Participates in strategic and long-range planning for campus network services. Analyzes University needs regarding the use of network equipment and services. Recommends network acquisitions (hardware and software) with cost estimates.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in computer networking.
- Ability to plan and guide the development, installation, maintenance, and repair of computer network systems and servers.
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
- Knowledge of VMware, Exchange, AD, and Linux.
- Ability to prioritize requests, organize, schedule, and coordinate a variety of activities and projects in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to identify and resolve network system malfunctions and operational problems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong commitment to customer service.
