White Plains Hospital Job DescriptionTitle:Infusion CenterRegistered Nurse Job Code: 300223, 300252Department/Location:Cancer Center FLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports to: Infusion Center NurseManager, Assistant Nurse ManagerPosition SummaryUnder the general direction of the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager, the Infusion Center Registered Nurse provides direct patient care. The Infusion Center Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Infusion Center Registered Nurse assesses patient's needs, plans care, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and Infusion Center philosophy, policies/procedures and standards. He/she demonstrates a great deal of flexibility, leadership/management skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and BehaviorsShows flexibility in job responsibilities and function to insure the appropriate care for the outpatient infusion center patientsUtilizes the nursing process to meet the age specific needs of the patient in all aspects of care: biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety/ environment and discharge planning including referrals to appropriate community resourcesUtilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit-based issues. Addresses issues with appropriate actionsCollaborates and communicates with the health care team, patients and familiesIntegrates patient rights into work practiceUtilizes and monitors methods of Infection ControlParticipates in the Performance Improvement initiativesCompletes competency requirementsAttends mandatory in-servicesAttends staff meetings as required/requestedUtilizes cost containment practicesAdheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physicalsPerforms all other related duties as assignedEducation & Experience RequirementsGraduate from an accredited school of nursing with current New York State license & registrationBSN (or MSN) required for all RNs hired after 1/1/18.Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices in rendering of patient careACLS required (as of June 1, 2021)BCLS certification through the American Heart Association is requiredAll registered nurses and advanced practice nurses providing direct oncology care must demonstrate one of the following:Current cancer-specific certification in the nurse's specialty by an accredited certification program. Oncology nursing certifications that qualify include, but are not limited to: AOCNP®, AOCNS®, AOCN®,BMTCN®, CPHON®, CPON®, CBCN® OCN®orOngoing education by earning 36 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours every 3 years (maintained by department manager)Three years RN experience is preferredChemotherapy RN experience preferredSuccessful completion of Chemo-Immunotherapy course preferredSuccessful completion of Department and Unit Orientation ProgramsCore CompetenciesClinical proficiency Ability to multi-taskTeamwork AdaptabilityCommunication skills Problem-solving skillsPlanning and organizing Attention to detailProblem-solving skills Judgment and decision-making Stress tolerancePhysical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work EnvironmentMay be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).
