Job Type Full-timeDescriptionJob Summary:The Infusion Coordinator is accountable for coordination of patient scheduling, staffing to census and acuity as appropriate both clinically and financially, and infusing patients. This position provides leadership and clinical expertise on the respective shift and within the department. The Infusion Coordinator functions as clinical support for staff and is a role model of competency and professionalism.Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Support management team in managing department productivity/staffing and timekeeping, and coordinating department activities.
  • Respond as departmental lead person for emergencies or disasters.
  • Assist and support staff in responding to and problem-solving situations related to patient/ family complaints, physician concerns, risk management, associate safety, and Hospital safety.
  • Adjust numbers of staff for census.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Deliver and monitor specialized infusions or injectable pharmacological treatments in the hospital setting.
  • Monitor patients for infusion-related reactions, intervene as required, accurately document all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed infusion, and submit infusion reports in a timely manner.
  • Mix medication per policy and procedure.
  • Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
  • Schedule patients to receive infusions.
  • Assess patients and prioritize their needs. Communicate changes in condition to physician.
  • Ensure quality and effectiveness. Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Teach patients and staff. Education will be integrated into care at all levels.
  • Adhere to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies.
  • Participate in hospital committees as the department representative as needed.
  • Make telephone follow-up phone calls to patients for patient satisfaction and post-treatment questions.
  • May be required to float to other departments (within the scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
  • May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong IV skills; infusion experience preferred
  • Knowledge about medications to be administered
  • Strong organization skills and time management
  • Able to multitask and accomplish and meet timelines
  • Professional appearance and effective communication skills
Job-related Skills and Abilities:
  • Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
RequirementsEducation and Experience:
  • RN licensure
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of standing behind a computer or bedside.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises.
  • Stress Level: Moderate to High
OSHA Classification:
  • Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
  • All procedures or other job-related tasks involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes of them are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures, such as gloves, masks, goggles, and gown are required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
