INSERVICE EDUCATION COORDINATORHOURLY RANGE: $48.09 - $64.92DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves the instruction of all nursing staff in restorative rehabilitation nursing techniques and general health education to help assure that quality patient care is provided at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC) Skilled Nursing Facility (Terrace View).The incumbent coordinates the work of all departments and educate staff members to the standard work performance demanded by the need to give quality patient care. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level professional nursing staff at Terrace View. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Plans and implements programs of instruction designed to meet the needs of facility employees;Presents frequent in-service programs which provide ongoing review of Restorative Rehabilitation nursing techniques and/or general health education for all levels of staff;Plans, implements and evaluates orientation of all new employees;Develops, maintains and utilizes records and reports pertinent to in-service education;Revises nursing policies and procedures and provides consultation to other departments in regard to their policies and procedures;Provides leadership in formulating the philosophy and objectives of nursing service and in-service education;Acts as a resource person for staff, to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care of the highest standard in accordance with current practices;Determines the needs of employees necessary to accomplish the objectives of the nursing service through collaboration with management and staff personnel and presents programs appropriate to their needs;Communicates program plans via monthly calendar, memo etc. to encourage attendance and participation in programs;Participates in counseling and guiding personnel in relation to their educational needs and stimulates interest in further formal education;Participates in new developments in the field of health facilities by attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.;Maintains good interdepartmental relationships by working with department heads on program planning and presentations.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONALCHARACTERISTICS: thorough knowledge of standard nursing techniques, procedures, methods and principles of education; thorough knowledge of State and Federal code requirements for in-service education and long term care; good knowledge of the principles of teaching with emphasis on nursing education; good knowledge of the principles of guidance, counseling and supervision; ability to supervise the work of staff nursing personnel; ability to establish effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to prepare and maintain reports; sound professional judgment; initiative and resourcefulness; dependability; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a Master's Degree* in Nursing and two (2) years of professional nursing experience in long term care, at least one (1) of which must have included nursing or medical education; or:
- Possession of a Bachelor's Degree* in Nursing and four (4) years of professional nursing experience in long term care, at least one (1) of which must have included nursing or medical education or:
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
