Purpose of the positionDesign and develop load handling solutions. Manage projects from concept through testing and drive them to completion. Prepare models and detailed drawings using 2D/3D design software for assemblies and parts. Create installation package drawings, hydraulic and/or electrical schematics. Lead design reviews. Provide engineering support to sales, shop and field personnel as required.
Main tasks and responsibilities - Work with Service, Installations, Sales and Marketing on new or revised applications. Investigate applications and make design changes when required. Be proactive in listening to customer requirements and needs and work to find the best possible solution for that particular application
- Support Service, Installations, Sales and Marketing to resolve customer problems related to the design, installation, maintenance, and operation of the products. Work with Hiab functional areas to resolve customer issues as required with effective communication to all areas
- Accurately maintain all engineering design and test documentation. Included are all Sales and Installation Packages, decal drawings, and load charts and other documentation as required
- Understand and ensure design follows all applicable laws, meet customer specifications and safety requirements
- Support and follow all company and Engineering policies
- Maintain an acceptable performance on Engineering Change Request (ECR) processing and backlog
- Perform mathematical calculations for design including stability and load calculations
- Maintain a library of current literature and reports
- Participate in the development and refinement of engineering computer aided tools and general capabilities to improve the Engineering department performance
- Know and understand Hiab's Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality System manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions
- Understand and comply with all Safety and Environmental requirements
- Perform all other duties as required by the Supervisor within the physical constraints of the job
- Interface with Sales and customers
What you'll need to succeedEducation: - B.S. in Mechanical Engineer or equivalent degree/experience required
Working experience: - Three or more years experience in a similar field with truck equipment industry preferred
- Experience with weldments, sheet metal, hydraulics, lean manufacturing concepts, all preferred
- Proficient in 3D CAD design; Solidworks a plus
- Knowledge of DC power systems and hydraulics a plus
- Proven mechanical design capabilities with consideration for bending, shear, torsion, and buckling
Skills and competencies: - Proficient in 2D/3D CAD design
- Computer literate/knowledge of Microsoft Office software or Google Docs
- Good knowledge of product function and application
- Organizational skills
- Communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to work well with others
