Job Description:
As an Installation Technician, your primary job is to scope out, program, install, troubleshoot, maintain, remove, and service two-way mobile radios, repeaters, tablets, wireless modems, speakers, lights, sirens, center consoles, antennas, other accessories, and all necessary wiring into customer vehicles. These vehicles include police cruisers, K-9 cars, fire trucks, ambulances, public works plow trucks, school buses, tow trucks, and other commercial vehicles. You will be responsible for exceeding our customers' expectations and fulfilling our company's needs. Our Installation Techs are directly responsible for keeping our communities' public safety, education, and public works departments communicating. You can take pride in this job and know what you do matters. In this position, you will be issued a company service vehicle, gas card, and equipment to succeed. Our service coordinator will task you out and will be dispatched from your home location or our office. We are looking for qualified individuals with installation experience and those looking for a new career opportunity with room to grow in our company.Working ConditionsAbility to work business hours M-F, 8 am to 4:30 pmReporting to customer locations all over Western and Central New York, dispatched from our Buffalo location and officeIssued company tools, service vehicle, and gas card during working hoursDuties and ResponsibilitiesUnderstand and fully utilize service software as required to execute your job.Receive a task and complete job tasks as assigned by the Service Coordinator.Intelligently plan and install two-way radios and related equipment into different types of vehicles.Ability to properly diagnose and correct a charge guard/power drain/ no power issueBe familiar with center consoles to include the different brands, radio brackets, filler plates, etc.Assist a sales rep or service coordinator in scoping out and quoting a vehicle install.Follow our Opportunity to Close Out Process and others as requiredProgram portable and mobile radios using the correct software and cablesTroubleshoot, diagnose and repair/replace antenna lines, power lines, and antennasRun RF cabling, power lines, antenna lines, and CAT5/6 Cabling as neededCut, splice, and terminate wiring with correct endpoints and hardware as neededUnderstand AC/DC voltage and power systemsInstall power supplies, distribution panels, backup power systems, and batteries.Maintain all company-issued tools and equipment and ensure serviceabilityMaintain company-issued vehicle and ensure it is serviced at regular intervalsUnderstanding of Ohm's LawKnowledge of RF theory and antenna propagationWork closely with the Service Coordinator to ensure timely completion of work.Assist the Service Coordinator as needed with customer and job informationAssist other technicians with on-site installationRequirements & Additional ConsiderationsHigh School DiplomaTechnical training and certifications (OSHA, R56, Motorola, Kenwood, Harris, etc.)Related military experience/MOS trainingElectrical Engineering or Computer Science degreeSkillsAbility to work independently and as an active member of a teamStrong multitasking, time management, and prioritization skillsExcellent organizational skills and initiativeStrong foundation and understanding of technologyAbility to follow a detailed processSelf-motivated and directedKnowledge of Ohm's law and essential low-voltage electrical workAbility to troubleshoot and diagnose issues in a systematic approachKnowledge of RF spectrum and antenna propagation theoryUnderstanding of basic IP networking and digital systemsAbility to follow a Scope of Work, rack diagrams, wiring diagrams, and system drawingsFive (5) Core Values of Saia CommunicationsPlease do the right thing for the customer and our company, and do what is morally and ethically correct.Exhibit relentless dedication to the company, our team, our mission, and our customers.Never be satisfied with the quality of your work, personal and professional development.
