The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to create a body of a person. Our core purpose is to protect public health and serve impartial justice through forensic science and medicine. The core values of the OCME are to put the mission of the agency first, to be truly dedicated and to have integrity in every aspect of our professional life. Under supervision, performs routine work within OCME's Facilities Unit. Duties will include but are not limited to:
* Responsible for disposal of garbage and sanitation and break down of corrugated cartons.
* Empties wastepaper baskets, polishes metal and moves furniture.
* Washes plaster, tile and marble walls and wallpaper.
* Responsible for floor maintenance: sweeping, mopping, rinse mopping, stripping, waxing and buff polishing.
* Cleans porters' closet, storage and supply areas.
* When assigned to outside grounds-work: sweeps, cleans trash and when applicable shovels snow.
* Help unload, store and issue supplies as needed.
* Cleans toilet, bath and shower facilities, offices, stairs and hallways.
* Packages and labels bio-hazardous waste material, issue and records the transfer to private contractor carting and disposing of this material.
* Other duties as assigned.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
