Instructional Aides work with certified staff and building level administrators to assist with performing daily educational tasks as assigned. Persons must be able to adapt to performing a variety of duties, accepting direction, control and planning of an activity, ability to work with students within their learning environments, and the ability to make decisions based on sensory or judgement. Qualifications a) Minimum of a high school education or the equivalent as determined by the General Education Development Test (GED)and 48 Semester hours of college work obtained from an accredited institution of higher education; or b) Associate's degree or higher obtained from an accredited institution of higher education; or c) High School Diploma or equivalent and pass a state-approved Para Pro Assessment; or d) High School Diploma or equivalent and show demonstrable proficiency in reading and writing skills (take/pass the MCS Educational Assistant Assessment)In performing the primary function and essential duties of this position, confidentiality must be maintained at all times. Primary Functions and Essential Duties:
  • Aid Teacher in general classroom functions such as lesson materials, room preparation and tidiness, and student records.
  • Conduct small group instruction under the direction of the teacher.
  • Help provide a well-organized, efficient classroom environment.
  • Maintain and follow through disciplinary procedures including classroom, school, and district policies and according to individual teacher's plan and the child's IEP as needed.
  • Follow specific directions with initiative, flexibility, and motivation while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  • Obtain other certifications and training as required by State Department of Education or the McMinn County School system.
