ROLE: INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL

SERVING GRADES: K-8

Mission: Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, The Shirley Rodriguez-Remeneski School ( BGLIG, pronounced Big League) will provide an exceptional education to young girls through dual language instruction in a technology-rich environment, while building on cultural heritage to foster leadership characteristics and strong values, promote self-confidence and create global leaders. Position Overview At Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls, Instructional Coaches understand and promote the school s mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Instructional Coach will be responsible for planning and supporting the school-wide instructional program and for providing research information and support to teachers. This teacher-leader s primary responsibility is to coach and support teachers by providing direct feedback and lesson modeling in the interest of improving their practice and supporting our dual language program, to achieve greater student learning outcomes. The coach collaborates with teachers and provides on the job professional development as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

(BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Model and demonstrate effective classroom practices for teachers.
  • Observe and provide feedback to teachers in classroom math practices.
  • Work directly with teachers to ensure effective instructional practices and strategies are incorporated in all lessons.
  • Provide research-based information and support to teachers.
  • Attend professional development for mathematics instruction.
  • Coordinate and analyze student assessment data with teachers, including formative assessments, and support teachers in the use of these data to guide instruction and interventions.
  • Coordinate intervention and support programs for students performing below grade level.
  • Collaborate with teachers as an advisor/mentor to support them in their roles.
  • Lead parent and community meetings/programs in support of the instructional program.
  • Organize the development of a schoolwide math plan and oversee its implementation.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings designed to support student development of essential skills and content that are aligned to Next Generation Standards.
  • Identify articles to read together, video of individual classes to watch together, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Support teachers in developing curriculum, syllabi, and exams.
  • Facilitate specific structured small group instruction for students who require additional support or acceleration.
  • Communicate regularly with the classroom teachers to provide information on student progress, assessments, and direction for further instruction.
  • Analyze standardized test results, create and share strategies for closing the achievement gap and increasing student achievement.
  • Other duties assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Alignment to BGLIG s core values and mission.
  • Bachelor s Degree required, Masters Degree in the field of education preferred.
  • NYS teaching certification required.
  • Four or more years of teaching experience in elementary or middle grades with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom.
  • Experience in a high performing charter or district school preferred but not required.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Common Core.
  • Strong knowledge of the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Intermediate to advanced Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Proficient in use of technology, including various G Suite teaching tools.
