The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology in the Office of Computing and Instructional Work at the Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) and working closely with the entire Office of Computing and Instructional Technology team, the Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS) is responsible for providing AV and multimedia support for residential, online, and hybrid classes and events, as well as other activities for the Columbia School of Social Work.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to in-person, email, and telephone requests for assistance and/or support for basic AV technology services from video recording to more complex services (e.g., live streaming and hybrid events).
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of audio-visual and related equipment, including devices used in audio and video technology, video conferencing systems, live web-based systems, and other technologies used by the School's AV department.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of issues and solutions, ensuring timely resolution of problems. Keep meticulous notes and seek guidance from a supervisor when needed.
  • Participate in maintaining a knowledge base solution for supported products and applications used in the School.
  • Write documentation and FAQs to assist faculty and staff with audio, visual, and video-conferencing and communication needs.
  • Stay current with emerging instructional technologies and evolving AV-related standards.
  • Assist in the development and teaching of workshops on commonly used AV applications, instructional technology tools, and equipment that is used in the classroom and conference rooms.
  • Proactively identify and recommend instructional technology solutions to address unmet needs and add value while taking the initiative in driving their implementation.
  • Participate in program event-planning meetings. Work collaboratively with the School's Director of Facilities and Columbia Facilities, Student Services, Office of Academic Affairs, etc.
  • Available to work 2 to 4 weekend days per month and be available during evenings on occasion and as needed to provide residential, online, and hybrid class and event coverage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or 0-2 years of relevant experience, including troubleshooting media services technology.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to remain calm under pressure, and demonstrate creative thinking independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong focus on delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Consistently display dedication to supporting teamwork within the group.
  • Proven ability to independently organize and coordinate workload and manage multiple priorities amidst constant deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures provided as guidelines for work performance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry-recognized technical certifications are a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of the use and design of AV hardware and software.
  • Demonstrate leadership and project work experience.
  • Advanced level of knowledge in troubleshooting a broad range of audiovisual issues.
  • Experience with editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, FinalCut Pro, or ProTools, is a plus.
  • This job may require loads of up to 40 pounds to be lifted and/or moved.
