Applications are being accepted for the following vacancies for the Spring 2024 semester on the Faculty staff of Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, New York.English, English as a Second Language and Foreign LanguagesInstructor - American Sign Language and Deaf CultureFT Probationary HV-FAC-9958MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in American Sign Language, American Sign Language Interpreting, or related field, such as Deaf Studies, Sign Language Studies, or Sign Language Interpretation. Knowledge and experience using the Signing Naturally Curricula; At least three years college-level teaching experience in using the Whole Language Approach to Teaching Fluency in American/Conversational Sign Language ; knowledge of Deaf Culture.Preferred Qualifications: *ALSTA Certification at a qualified level of higher and Master's Degree in a relevant field; Ability, credentials, and desire to teach college-level courses within the department other than American Sign Language, such as Spanish, French, Italian, German, English, English as a Second Language, Japanese, Chinese, or Arabic; teaching experience with computer-enhanced instruction; teaching experience with diverse and under-prepared students. Experience and/or desire to engage in Distance learning, Web-enhanced, or Remote instruction. Applicants must be available for day and/or evening assignments depending on departmental needs.The Instructor reports to the Department Chairperson of English, Foreign Languages, and English as a Second Language. and performs the following duties: •Provide classroom and on-line instruction in American Sign Language and Deaf Culture courses.•Evaluate students for appropriate course level.•Provide lecture, writing, and research assignments, and evaluate student performance.•Serve on departmental, college-wide committees, and advise the American Sign Language Club.•Perform faculty duties as specified in the Faculty Agreement and/or by the Department Chairperson.
