Learn more about MATC at Characteristic Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Dean of the Manufacturing, Construction, & Transportation pathway, provides both theoretical and practical instruction to students in our cabinetmaking shop. Employees in this job function as professional Trades Instructors, completing or overseeing a variety of assignments to provide vocational training for students in MATC cabinet making shop facilities. Work is performed by providing individual and group instruction by means of demonstrations, sketches, explanations, and visual aids. Required to keep current with the latest trends and technologies in discipline.
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducational Requirements:Must have one of the following:
- Completion of a carpentry or woodworking registered apprenticeship OR
- A technical diploma in cabinet making or architectural woodworking OR
- 60 college credits
Occupational Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent (14,000 hours) of experience as a cabinet maker or architectural woodworker.
- In addition, one of the following must be met:
- At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years, OR
- Two (2) years of teaching carpentry course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years. (One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time of four (4) semesters part-time)
