Winthrop University: College of Arts & Sciences: Mass CommunicationLocationWinthrop UniversityOpen DateOct 29, 2024DescriptionThe Department of Mass Communication at Winthrop University is seeking an Instructor with a Master's degree and a minimum of 18 hours of graduate-level coursework in MassCommunication or a relevant field. Candidates who can offer professional expertise in the industry, teach an array of undergraduate courses, and support the academic programs with a specific commitment to inclusion are strongly encouraged to apply.Priority will be given to applications received by December 1, 2024. The position will remain open until filled.Major Responsibilities:Teach undergraduate courses in a combined mass communication and integrated marketing and communications program.Candidates will teach 24 contact hours each year with courses including broadcast journalism, TV production, multimedia storytelling, and film production.Coordinate and be able to efficiently operate TV studio equipment, streaming radio stations, podcast studios, and software such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition.Advise and mentor undergraduates and serve as faculty advisor to student organizations.Teach courses in Winthrop's innovative General Education program as needed.Serve on university, college, and departmental committees.Commit to congenial and enthusiastic departmental collaborations.Other duties as assigned by the department chair.About Winthrop University:Founded in 1886, Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, offers its 6,000-plus undergraduate and graduate students an educational experience that blends liberal arts, professional programs, global awareness, and civic engagement. In partnership with the State of South Carolina and the Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA), our benefits include health and life insurance, generous paid leave, parental leave, and retirement programs.QualificationsRequired:Master's degree from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university with a minimum of 18 credits in mass communication courses.Minimum of three years of professional broadcast journalism experience - studio, field, and digital video production, including directing and control room technology.An understanding of digital media production and distribution channels.Ability to teach courses in live event production and television directing, with knowledge of videography and lighting design.Extensive experience with Adobe Suite products, including Premiere and Audition.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and the highest standards of professionalism.Preferred:Ability to teach courses in an online modality.Experience mentoring and working with students.Application InstructionsCandidates should apply by submitting the following materials.
