Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Insurance Authorization Specialist will provide daily onsite support at assigned hospital for support to the screening team. The insurance authorization specialist is responsible for updating the eligibility verification for patients admitting to facilities as well as submission of supporting documentation and information to the insurance companies for authorization for treatment. In addition, the specialist will check the copay amounts and any applicable information regarding patient financial responsibility for their stay. This information will be shared with the screeners on the team, the healthcare facility, including hospitals, doctors' offices, nursing homes, and other related entities.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Responsible for receiving any potential candidates for nursing home placement and verifying insurance
  • Responsible for submitting appropriate documentation to authorization entities to obtain authorization for the stay
  • Communicating statuses of authorizations including approvals and denials to all applicable parties
  • Communicating with hospital staff including but not limited to social workers and discharge planners about the timing of patient discharge to the facility
  • Assisting the screeners with various tasks related to screening when necessary
  • Checking websites for patient financial responsibility information/instructions and alerting the applicable teams
  • Build and maintain relationships with hospital workers
  • Will be an on-site position at Buffalo General Medical Center

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of health care experience
  • 2 plus years of insurance or authorization related experience preferred
  • Experience long term care reimbursement preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Point Click Care strongly preferred.

Pay range $22 - $27 per hour
